Kenshin Kawakami Outpitches Roy Halladay

Who knew Kenshin Kawakami had more than three pitches. The old-timer in Japan turned rookie in the United States outpitched Blue Jays star Roy Halladay for an exciting win tonight at Turner Field.

Kawakami had seven strikeouts. The Braves went into the ninth with a one-run lead.

Mike Gonzalez gave up a double in the ninth, before a pop-up and then an exciting play by Martin Prado to end the game. The Braves return to .500 for the year, keeping pace with the Phillies and Mets.

Matt Diaz hit a double in the eighth and he scored on Yunel Escobar’s ground out and a pop-fly from Casey Kotchman.

Game two is tomorrow night at 7 p.m.
