Atlanta Braves Acquire Nate McLouth and Drop Icon Tom Glavine

It was a huge day yesterday for the Atlanta Braves as the team made a splash for a center fielder. The Braves haven’t had a solid center fielder since Andruw Jones, and when his hitting hit the bottom of the barrel, so did the Braves.

The Braves gave up a possible pitching stud for Nate McLouth in Charlie Morton. Braves fans had high hopes for Morton, who didn’t look to good last year. But hold faith, because the Braves also dismissed icon Tom Glavine and plan to bring up rookie Tommy Hanson, who is pitching lights out for the AAA club.

The departure of Glavine is a bit bitter. Glavine was not happy and he says he was surprised by the decision. He still hopes to pitch in the MLB, but it may be time for him to call it quits.

The Braves are 4 1/2 games out of first place with the Phillies and this trade shows that the team is at least going to try to win the The East. But to do so, the Braves will need Hanson to pitch well and McLouth to steal bases (The Braves are ugly at stealing bases this year) and hit above .280.
