Atlanta Braves Move Two Games Closer To Playoffs

AUTHOR: thelandryhat | IN: Braves | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

The Atlanta Braves won their 15th game out of 17, beating the Florida Marlins 4-0 today.
Jair Jurrjens pitched seven innings for his 14th win.
Chipper Jones homered for the Braves, who are now two games behind the idle Colorado Rockies for the National League playoff spot.
The Braves have won seven in a row, a season high. The win pretty much seals a playoff-less season for the Marlins.
The Braves have six games left, including two more against the pesky Marlins. Then the Braves close the season against the Washington Nationals for four games.
The Rockies have it even tougher, with three games against [...]

Bobby Cox Will Coach One More Year

AUTHOR: thelandryhat | IN: Braves | COMMENTS: None Yet

Atlanta Braves coach Bobby Cox got a one-year contract extension to coach next year before he retires.
But I have to ask why?
Although the Braves seem to be climbing back into contention after years of struggling, it’s not really because of Cox. At least not in my opinion.
The Braves were lucky enough to finally get an ace from their farm system in Tommy Hanson. That sure helps. The management also made some risky, but smart free agency moves, namely with strike out and innings king Javier Vazquez.
But why does Cox feel as if he needs to endure one more year in [...]

Atlanta Braves Win Half A Dozen In A Row With Ryan Church Hit

AUTHOR: thelandryhat | IN: Braves | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

The Atlanta Braves sure picked an interesting period of the season to win their season-best six games and stay within five games of a wildcard spot currently owned by the Colorado Rockies.
The Braves won in the final inning as Ryan Church drove a ball past the glove of first baseman Daniel Murphy.
There are 17 games left for the Braves, including another series against the Mets, Phillies and Marlins.
Derek Lowe left the game in the second because of a blister.

Braves Sweep Cardinals

AUTHOR: thelandryhat | IN: Braves | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Atlanta Braves swept the once hot St. Louis Cardinals 9-2, in a complete-game gem from Javier Vazquez.
The series sweep pumped some energy into a clubhouse that four days ago believed the playoffs were out of reach. They still may be, but the Braves have two series left with the Mets and one with the Phillies.
The Braves need to likely win all but three of their 17 games to have a chance to make the playoffs.

Is Braves Loss To Marlins The End?

AUTHOR: thelandryhat | IN: Braves | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

The Atlanta Braves just needed the bullpen to perform to pull out its second win in a row against the competitive Florida Marlins. Instead, the Braves gave up a a lead again and eventually lost to the Marlins who scored a run in the bottom of the 9th to capture the win and tie the series 1-1.
A win would have gone far for the Braves playoffs hopes, but instead the loss might have taken all of the air out of this team that has defied some odds. Who would have thought the Braves starting rotation would be one of baseball’s [...]

Tim Hudson Gets Win Over Florida Marlins

AUTHOR: thelandryhat | IN: Braves | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Atlanta Braves pulled two full games ahead of the Florida Marlins last night as Tim Hudson pitched six effective innings for the win.
A Dan Uggla homer in the ninth put some scare into the game, but Rafael Soriano closed the game out with a double play ball.
The Braves are just three games back from Colorado for the wildcard spot.
Coming of elbow surgery, Hudson pitched a month in the minors as a warm up. He returns to what may be one of the best pitching staffs in baseball for the final run of the season.
