Mets Can Sweep Braves Tonight

The Atlanta Braves have suddenly become a really poor baseball team. Ever since the comeback win against the Phillies last week, the Braves haven’t won a game. The Mets have a chance to sweep the Braves tonight on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball.

Losers of four games in a row, the Braves are falling fast. There is not any one particular thing that is not working; it is a number of problems that has this team reeling.

The last place Braves have a shortstop who is not hitting the ball and he is making mental errors costing them games. As talented as Yunel Escobar may be, the Braves cannot tolerate much more of this air-headed blunder trip Escobar is on right now. Escobar already has dealt with criticism for being the clubhouse cry baby, but making mental mistakes that cost games should not be an accepted shortcoming for pro baseball players. His head is not in the game!

At 8-9, the Braves fell to last place in the National League East.

The Braves aren’t dead. But Bobby Cox needs to take charge.

The Braves are one of the more poorer defensive teams in baseball. Not only is this team constructed without a true power hitter, the only guy who has been a consistent hitter is Martin Prado, a guy probably 60 percent of baseball fans have never heard of.

The team committed four errors in the series opener against the Mets and have embarrassed themselves in the two of three games the two teams have played so far.

Tonight may get real ugly.

Chipper Jones is not healthy, which is something the Braves had to have been prepared for, right?

As David O’Brien sadly writes, the Braves are already admitted their shortcomings.

Melky Cabrera has been horrible.

Troy Glaus has not found any stride.

Matt Diaz is in his worst slump of his career.

In this four-game losing streak, the Braves totaled six runs, batting .209 and .129 with men in scoring position against the Phillies and Mets, two teams who will be in contention all year.

Does this just mean that the Braves aren’t good enough? Even with the rotation and Jason Heyward, the Braves are still an average team that will miss the playoffs?
