Source: Yardbarker.com Brian McCann to return to lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Phillies. It was first thought that he would only miss the finale in Florida with that tweaked quad muscle. I think Bobby Cox made a wise decision by sitting him as much as he did as you don’t want something nagging to turn into something that is serious. Plus with all of the wet weather that has been around the stadium it would have just made things more dangerous. McCann did get a couple of pinch hit appearances and should be ready to go for the [...]
Braves Complete Sweep of Pirates, Take Finale 5-2
(Source: Yardbarker.com) It is official, Kenshin Kawakami has to be snake bit. Kawakami finished off his third great start in a row but yet again came away with nothing to show for it. Things went awry for Kawakami with Pirates Right Fielder Garrett Jones at the plate leading off the seventh inning. Kawakami appeared to strike Jones out with a split finger but third base umpire Chris Guccione came racing in to say that the ball hit the ground. Bobby Cox came out to argue but to no avail. Video replay did show that the ball hit the ground but [...]
Braves Continue Dominance of Pirates, Win 6-3
(Source: Yardbarker.com) I remember a time when the Braves couldn’t beat the teams they were supposed to beat. Yet for the latter part of May they have done just that and it continued with a 6-3 win over the Pirates on Saturday night. Kris Medlen pitched six innings allowing three earned runs to earn his second win of the season. Rookie Phenom Jason Heyward hit his tenth home run of the season to get the scoring started for the Braves in the first inning. The Pirates quickly matched as an Andrew McCutchen third inning home run tied the game. The [...]
Chipper Jones Talks Retirement Then Sets Milestone
Source: Yardbarker.com Atlanta Braves Third Baseman Chipper Jones set the franchise record for career bases on balls during Thursday nights game against the Florida Marlins. Chipper walked twice on the night and passed Eddie Matthews for the all time lead. Jones now has 1378 walks in 9441 plate appearances. Earlier in the day Chipper was interviewed by a Miami radio station and again speculated that he could retire at the end of this season. “I am seriously considering it no matter how this year ends up for the Atlanta Braves,” Jones told 790 The Ticket. “It’s something that’s still in [...]
Braves Hammer Marlins Bullpen, Win 8-3
Source: Yardbarker.com For the second night in a row, Atlanta Braves batters teed off on the Florida Marlins bullpen. Martin Prado had three hits and two RBI’s to help pace an offense that came out swinging after a one hour and seventeen minute rain delay halted the game before the top of the fifth inning. The Braves bullpen was masterful in relief of starter Tim Hudson pitching 5 innings and allowing on one run the rest of the way. Takashi Saito worked his way out of a jam in the seventh inning and closer Billy Wagner again sat the Marlins [...]
(Source: Yardbarker.com) Brian McCann is highly questionable for Thursday night’s series finale against the Marlins. The Braves catcher tweaked the quad in the fourth inning and played through the seventh before being lifted for a pinch runner. Despite the hot streak that the Braves are on, they need to rest McCann as they don’t want that lingering injury to turn into something worse. McCann after a slow start is hitting .263 with 5 home runs and 18 rbi’s. Also worth noting is Braves First Baseman Troy Glaus has a sore foot and he also left the game during the seventh [...]
Jason Heyward Sixth in All Star Voting
(Source: Yardbarker.com) Jason Heyward currently is ranked sixth among National League Outfielders in All Star Voting. The Braves 20 year old Rookie of the Year Candidate trails Ryan Braun, Jayson Werth, Shane Victorino, Andre Ethier, and Matt Holiday. Whether or not Heyward ultimately gets voted to start or not he will have to be considered heavily for a spot in the All Star Game. The 20 year old rookie has been a major reason for what success the Braves have enjoyed this year. Jason Heywards 2010 Stats Year Tm Lg G PA AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI SB [...]
Six Run Seventh Propels Braves over Marlins
(Source: Yardbarker.com) The Braves drew even in their current three game set with the Marlins in much the same way that the Marlins took game one. By beating up on the bullpen. The Braves did most of their damage against the Marlins bullpen scoring six times in the seventh inning to allow pitcher Tommy Hanson to grab his fourth win of the season. The Braves opened up that seventh inning trailing 2-1 with a Yunel Escobar infield single followed by a Melky Cabrera single to right. With two men on Nate McLouth sacrificed them both into scoring position. Pinch Hitting [...]
Braves Recall Gregor Blanco
David O’Brien Article The Braves put Outfielder Brent Clevlen on the Disabled List with a sprained toe and recalled Gregor Blanco from Triple A Gwinnett. This will be Blanco’s first taste of Major League action this season and he has batted .294 with 1 homer and 10 RBI’s at Gwinnett. Blanco can play any of the outfield positions and will give Bobby Cox another option in Center Field if the need should arise. Blanco spent the entire 2008 season with the Braves on the strength of a outstanding World Baseball Classic Performance. He batted .254 in 144 games played. He [...]
Should the Braves Pursue Roy Oswalt?
(Source: Yardbarker.com) If the Braves are concerned with sending Bobby Cox out as a winner this season then yes they probably should join the market for current Astros pitcher Roy Oswalt. Fact is though it probably isn’t going to happen. One only needs to look back to the this past off season when the Braves tried to trade Derek Lowe because of his salary (15 million per) only to find no takers which resulted in the Javier Vazquez for Melky Cabrera deal as reason enough for not being optimistic. Oswalt has a big price tag (15 million this season, 16 [...]
