Monitoring the Progress of Scott Proctor

Proctor was a pleasant surprise to the Braves in Spring Training and how close he actually came to making the team before leaving Florida is known only by upper management. Clearly he wasn’t as far along in his recovery from Tommy John surgery as the Braves had hoped given his numbers 11.25 ERA in eight appearances at AAA Gwinnett this season.

After struggling Proctor returned to Florida to the Braves Spring Training facility for work in Extended Spring Training. It was here that he restarted his preseason preparations to build up arm strength. It appears that the Braves will move him slowly through the organization as there really is no pressing need for a reliever right now.

In other reliever roster related news David O’Brien is reporting that the Braves have send down Craig Kimbrel and called up Christhian Martinez from Triple A Gwinnett. I can’t really figure this move out other than maybe the Braves aren’t happy with the amount of work that Kimbrel is receiving with the big club.

Martinez was acquired off of waivers from the Florida Marlins and is already on the Braves 40 Man roster. He wasn’t exactly tearing it up at Gwinnett posting a 1-1 record with a 5.04 ERA. Kimbrel was 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA for the Braves.
