AUTHOR: | IN: Braves, Injury, Minor Leagues | COMMENTS: None Yet

As was reported earlier, Braves prospect Arodys Vizcaino has an injured elbow but will not require surgery. An MRI exam revealed a partially torn ligament in his right elbow. The plan is for Vizcaino to travel to Florida and immediately begin a rehab program with an expected return in about six weeks. The Atlanta Braves Welcome Back Jair Jurrjens

AUTHOR: | IN: Braves, Injury | COMMENTS: None Yet

Jair Jurrjens will make his anticipated return to the Braves rotation tonight against the Washington Nationals. Jurrjens just completed a rehab stint with mixed results and the most pessimistic of Braves fans would point out that he wasn’t pitching very well before he got hurt (0-3, 6.38) in five starts. If the time off did Jurrjens well and he can recapture the form that he had last season when he was a 14 game winner with a 2.60 ERA then the Braves just got a major weapon back as they pursue the Eastern Division crown. Jurrjens was thought of by [...]

Jason Heyward Won’t Play in All Star Game

AUTHOR: | IN: 2010 MLB All Star Game, Braves, Injury | COMMENTS: None Yet

It appears that this Disabled List stint will cost Jason Heyward a chance to play in this year’s All Star Game. Heyward told the AJC that he wouldn’t participate if chosen due to the injury to his thumb. Heyward won’t be eligible to be activated from the Disabled List until July 12th which is the first day of the All Star Break. “I actually don’t plan on playing in the All-Star game if I’m selected because if I can’t play for this team right here right now, then I don’t want to go play in that game and jeopardize the [...]

Atlanta Braves Fall to the Nationals 7-2

AUTHOR: | IN: Braves, Game Recap | COMMENTS: None Yet

Tuesday night was a reminder that Baseball is a long season and that no regular season game is really bigger than any other. The day after Strasburg Mania struck Turner Field, less than 20,000 fans made their way out to the ball park to see an uninspiring performance from the Home Team. The Nationals defeated the Braves 7-2 Tuesday behind a great pitching performance from Craig Stammen. Stammen baffled the Braves over seven and a third while allowing the Braves only two runs. Stammen was just back up from Triple A where he was optioned to make room for Strasburg. [...]

Braves Place Jason Heyward on DL, Activate Matt Diaz

AUTHOR: | IN: Braves, Injury | COMMENTS: None Yet

Braves Rookie Right Fielder Jason Heyward was placed on the Disabled List Monday with a deep bone bruise in his left thumb. The good news is Heyward has a strained ligament and won’t require surgery. The Braves are taking no chance with the rookie and disabled him with the hope that it will have time to heal. To take Heyward’s place on the roster, the Braves will activate Right Fielder Matt Diaz from the disabled list. Diaz had been out after surgery to remove a splinter from his thumb that was causing an infection. Diaz had been on a rehab [...]

Kenshin Kawakami is Headed to the Bullpen

AUTHOR: | IN: Braves | COMMENTS: None Yet

Tomahawk Take Nation spoke and the Braves listened. Probably not but, Kris Medlen will be staying in the starting rotation. That is a good thing as he has earned the opportunity. Medlen is 5-1 with a 3.15 ERA on the season. Jair Jurrjens will return to the rotation at the expense of Kenshin Kawakami for Wednesday’s series finale with the Washington Nationals. Kawakami will be moved into the bullpen. There was some discussion as to moving Medlen to the pen would be a better option due to him being able to handle the transition better than Kawakami. However, Medlen’s strong showing [...]
