First and foremost the Braves won in dramatic fashion last night delivering the winning run on a suicide squeeze play by Brooks Conrad. The win evens their series up with the Twins with the finale scheduled for Sunday afternoon at 2:10pm. This is the final game in an eleven game road trip for the Braves and a win today would give them a winning record on the trip. If nothing else hats off to the team for treading water.

Conrad had this to say about the squeeze play:

"“Before I went up there Bobby said, “Hey, be ready, we might squeeze.’ I just figured we might go ahead and do it on the first pitch. But he didn’t give it to me, so I went ahead and took a rip at the first one. Probably good that I swung and missed, because it was up in the zone a little bit. I probably would have popped it up if I’d made contact. But then I looked down the next time and the squeeze was on. So here we go, I’ve got to do what I can to get the ball down. It was kind of down and in, so I dropped the barrel on it and it worked out great.”"

It is impossible not to pull for that kid.

More after the jump

While the Braves have maintained their lead over the Philadelphia Phillies in the standings, the New York Mets have come out of nowhere to close to within a game and a half of the division lead.

Of course Conrad wouldn’t even have been in the lineup had Chipper Jones not been a late scratch from the lineup. It appears that his troublesome finger is once again giving him trouble as he is experiencing soreness in the joint yet again.

Pitcher Jair Jurrjens will begin his rehab assignment this Monday at Triple A Gwinnett. Jurrjens will be facing the Durham Bulls. He is expected to make two or three rehab starts before rejoining the Braves rotation.

In other minor league related news, Braves right handed pitching prospect Arodys Vizcaino was promoted from the Rome Braves to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. Vizcaino had been lights out at Rome and I am kicking myself for not seeing him pitch while he was there. His promotion gives Myrtle Beach one of the best starting rotations in the minors.
