Braves Take Two of Three From the Marlins

Catching up or just catching our breath? I am not really sure at the moment. After being on the road most of the day yesterday I was not able to catch the Braves game. Just looking at the box score it appears that Tim Hudson was once again spectacular after recovering from a rough first inning. He was a tough luck loser yesterday pitching eight innings while allowing only three runs.

On an injury note, Troy Glaus missed his second straight game with a sore knee that got a cortisone shot. It is not expected to be serious but Glaus has some aches and pains from time to time and really has played everyday this season without a break. The Braves and Bobby Cox will have to find a way to get him some time off so that he is at full strength during the stretch run.

Perhaps the biggest news of the weekend was that the Braves had five players named to the National League All Star Team. Jason Heyward was voted in as a starter and will be joined on the team by Martin Prado, Brian McCann, Tim Hudson, and surprise addition Omar Infante.

The Infante addition comes out of nowhere but hats off to Charlie Manuel for including him. Infante is every bit the reason the Braves are two games up in the National League East. His inclusion is like including the entire Braves bench as All Stars. Infante and his cohorts on the bench have filled in anytime the team has needed them. Infante in particular is the leader of that group filling in at shortstop, third base, left field, or in other words anywhere Bobby Cox pencils him in. The fact that he is an all star just seems to make this season more magical.

The Braves open up one of the most meaningful weeks of the season thus far heading into the All Star Break. They begin a three game set with the Phillies tonight with Derek Lowe on the mound facing off against Roy Halladay. After the Phillies series they travel to New York for a three game set with the second place New York Mets. So National League East standings could look alot different depending on the outcome of this week. If the Braves could have a strong week they could really put the pressure on the Philles and the Mets heading towards the end of July and the trade deadline.

Programming Note – I am currently on vacation but I don’t plan for updates to stop. They however might not be at the usual times. So please either add Tomahawk Take to your RSS Feed or keep checking back for updates. I am also planning a huge announcement for the site hopefully later in the week.
