7/21: Braves Minor League Recap

facebooktwitterreddit

Gwinnett 3, Scranton/WB 1
Scott Diamond: 7 IP, 8 H, ER, 2 K
Barbaro Canizares: 2-3, 2B, RBI
Diory Hernandez: 1-4, 3B, RBI

Jesus Montero went 3-3 with an RBI double again, but other than that Diamond shut them down for seven solid innings, allowing just the lone double and seven singles with no walks. It’s an improvement over the six-run outing in his Gwinnett debut last time out. Canizares, Hernandez, and Brandon Hicks provided the offense with an RBI apiece.

Myrtle Beach 4, Wilmington 3
Zeke Spruill: 4 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, BB
Luis Avilan: 3 IP, 2 H
Dan Nelson: 2-3, RBI
Cory Harrilchak: 1-6, 2 RBI

Spruill gave up a lot of singles and it cost him three runs in four innings, but the troubling part is no strikeouts. That’s never something you want to see. Spruill hasn’t been the same since returning, allowing 17 earned runs in his last 20 innings, though he has only walked two. The Pelicans had a rough night on offense but did enough to win in 13 innings. Mycal Jones went 0-6 with an RBI. Three batters went 0-5, including Jordan Kreke.

Rome 9, Lexington 5
Brett DeVall: 5.1 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
David Hale: 2.2 IP, H, K
Brent Clevlen: 3-4
Jace Whitmer: 3-4, 2B, HR, 4 RBI
Edward Salcedo: 2-4, 3B, RBI

DeVall scattered a couple bad innings across his five-plus innings, but he couldn’t get out of the sixth. It wasn’t as bad as his line indicates. The Rome offense provided the win tonight. Whitmer went crazy, Salcedo broke through, and Clevlen added three singles in a rehab start. Jake Hanson, Riaan Spanjer-Furstenburg, and Todd Cunningham each added an RBI. Rome has a pretty solid lineup right now.

Danville 8, Pulaski 1
Aaron Northcraft: 7 IP, 2 H, 10 K
Evan Gattis: 4-5, 3 RBI
Andrelton Simmons: 2-5, 2 2B, 2 RBI
Barrett Kleinknecht: 3-5, RBI
Joseph Terdoslavich: 3-5, RBI
Jakob Dalfonso: 2-5, RBI

Northcraft allowed two singles and zero walks with ten strikeouts over seven shutout innings. Not bad. Northcraft has allowed one run on five hits in his last 19.1 innings, not walking any and striking out 18. He has only walked two in 29.1 innings this season. I see a promotion on the horizon. The top five hitters in the lineup combined for 14 hits tonight. It’s good to see Simmons pick up two doubles and two RBIs. Gattis is riding a seven-game hitting streak.

GCL Phillies 7, GCL Braves 2
Matt Lipka: 1-4, RBI
Alejandro Sanchez: 2-3, RBI

Not much to report. Lipka stole two more bases and is now 10-12. I’m giddy. Cody Johnson went 0-3 with a strikeout.
