Gwinnett 6, Rochester 3
Chris Resop: 5 IP, 2 BB, 6 K
Brandon Beachy: 4 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, BB, 7 K
Freddie Freeman: 1-4, HR, 2 RBI
Matt Young: 2-3, 2B, 2 RBI
Brandon Hicks: 3-4, 2B

So after pitching a complete game one-hitter with no walks and eight strikeouts in his last start, Resop pitches five no-hit innings with two walks and six strikeouts. I’ll take it. Beachy made his AAA debut, starting strong by striking out the side in the sixth after walking the first batter. He gave up a single that deflected off himself in the seventh but induced a double play and got a strikeout to end the inning. Beachy got two quick outs to begin the eighth but a single, hit by pitch, and error loaded the bases, and he struck out the next batter to end the threat. A leadoff double and two-out single put two on with two outs in the ninth, and Beachy gave up a three-run home run before getting the final out of the game. It’s a great start for him. Freeman hit his 14th homer and has 59 RBIs on the season.

Myrtle Beach 5, Salem 2
Zeke Spruill: 5 IP, 5 H, BB, K
Dan Nelson: 2-3, 2 RBI
Cory Harrilchak: 3-4, 3 2B
Michael Jones: 1-3, 2B, RBI

Spruill finally put together a good start, allowing five singles in five shutout innings. He only struck out one but his control has been impressive, walking just three in 23.2 innings this season. He needs more punch outs, though. The players listed above were the only offense. Nelson has two homers and eight RBIs in his last ten games. Harrilchak lost his hitting streak last night but began a new one tonight with three doubles and scoring three times.

Greenville 4, Rome 0
Brett DeVall: 6 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, K

A lot of crap happened in DeVall’s start. He took a solid four hours in his first inning thanks to a ton of errors that led to four unearned runs (one of the errors his own). He induced two lined double plays to third base and put a runner on base every inning but his last. It wasn’t good. It’s wasn’t pretty for the offense either, as they managed just four singles.

Rome 8, Greenville 1
Jeffrey Lorick: 4 IP, H, BB, 8 K
Jace Whitmer: 3-4, 2 RBI
Riaan Spanjer-Furstenburg: 2-3, 2 RBI
Philip Gosselin: 3-4, 3 R

Lorick made his first start at Rome this season and made the most of it, allowing one hit over four shutout innings and striking out eight. The outing lowered his ERA to 1.04 in 30.2 IP. The offense was a different story in the second game, as all but two starters had a hit. Todd Cunningham added a double and walk and scored twice.

GCL Tigers 6, GCL Braves 4
Brandon Drury: 2-4, 2 RBI
Fernando De Los Santos: 2-4, 3B, 2 RBI

De Los Santos is hitting .311/.400/.432 in 74 AB for the GCL Braves. Much better the second time around.

DSL Rangers 1, DSL Braves 0
Abraham Espinosa: 6 IP, 5 H, 2 BB, 8 K
Elvin Garcia: 5 IP, 5 H, BB, 3 K
Gerardo Reyes: 2-4, BB

Both Espinosa and Garcia gave up just singles over their combined 11 shutout innings. They have ERA’s of 1.72 and 1.83, respectively. Unfortunately the offense couldn’t buy a run, getting six singles and never scoring. It took the Rangers 12 innings to finally score a run and end the game.
