Gwinnett 3, Rochester 1
Scott Diamond: 6 IP, 4 H, ER, 2 BB, 4 K
Barbaro Canizares: 2-4, 2 RBI
Freddie Freeman: 1-4, 2B

Diamond pitched five shutout innings and gave up just one extra base hit. He has put together back-to-back good starts now for Gwinnett. Scott Proctor, Stephen Marek, and Craig Kimbrel each pitched a scoreless inning. It’s good to see for all three. The only hits came from the top four hitters. Gregor Blanco went 1-3. Wes Timmons went 1-4 and scored twice. The other two are listed above.

Huntsville 6, Mississippi 0
Julio Teheran: 4.2 IP, 6 H, 5 ER, 6 BB, 3 K
Benino Pruneda: 1.1 IP, H, 2 BB, 2 K
Tim Collins: 1 IP, 2 H, K
Juan Abreu: 1 IP, 2 H, ER, BB

A double and single caused Teheran’s first run in the second. He walked four in the third inning and allowed a second run, though he induced a double play to end the inning. Singles and walks did him in in the fifth and he couldn’t escape it, allowing two runs before being pulled with two outs. Pruneda gave up a single that scored Teheran’s fifth run before the inning ended. Teheran’s command was off considerably, walking six in less than five total innings. Despite the six hits, only one was for extra bases. It’s not what you’re looking for as far as getting off on the right foot, but debuts aren’t more important than any other start.

Salem 4, Myrtle Beach 2
Brett Oberholtzer: 5 IP, 2 H, ER, 2 BB, 4 K
Luis Avilan: 2 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, BB, K
L.V. Ware: 2-4, 2B, 3B
Gerardo Rodriguez: 1-4, 2B, RBI

Oberholtzer took a no-hitter to the fifth but gave up a leadoff double. His only other hit was an RBI single in the inning, and then he induced an inning-ending double play. That’s a huge rebound from his eight-run outing last time out. Avilan broke an eight-inning scoreless streak with his three runs allowed. Jordan Kreke added two singles.

Bristol 4, Danville 0
Ryan Weber: 1 IP, 2 H, ER, K
Tyler Stovall: 3 IP, 5 H, ER, 5 BB, 4 K

Weber received the toughest loss you can get by giving up a run in the first and getting pulled after. Stovall was everywhere in three innings, walking five. He has 16 walks in 16.2 innings this season compared to 18 strikeouts. The offense managed three hits, including a double by Barrett Kleinknecht.

Danville 2, Bristol 1
Ronan Pacheco: 5 IP, 3 H, ER, BB, 13 K
Joseph Terdoslavich: 3-3, 2B
David Rohm: 1-3, RBI

Pacheco turned his season around quite nicely by striking out 13 in five innings. I guess if he wasn’t striking somebody out he was giving up a hit. He had given up 13 earned runs in his previous three outings. They only had four hits on offense again but managed to win with two runs.

GCL Blue Jays 4, GCL Braves 0
Eduardo Castillo: 6 IP, 9 H, 4 ER, BB, 3 K

Castillo gave up nine hits but only two were doubles and he walked just one over six innings. It’s easily the worst of his three starts so far in the GCL, and I’d say that’s a good thing. He’s doing well. I can’t say the same for the Braves offense, as they mustered two hits.
