Tomahawk Take Poll:Reactions to the Braves Deadline Deal

Scanning the blogosphere  for some reaction to the Braves deadline deal of acquiring center fielder Rick Ankiel and reliever Kyle Farnsworth in exchange for Gregor Blanco, Jesse Chavez, and prospect Tim Collins.

AJC writer Jeff Schultz says the Braves sent the right message by making the trade. That message is that they are not going to stand pat and are pushing hard to try and send Bobby Cox out as a winner this year.

Michael Engel of Royals blog Kings of Kaufman looks as the trade as a win win situation for both teams.

Nathaniel Stoltz of Call to the Pen also agrees that the trade cleared out some guys in Kansas City that were blocking some younger players and the Braves traded some guys that didn’t fit into their plans.

That is essentially my view of this trade. The Braves didn’t give up anyone that really mattered to them. Chavez like Jo Jo Reyes had run out of opportunities in Atlanta. Tim Collins had only been a part of the organization a short time, and while I liked Blanco a lot, it is doubtful that he is anything more than a fourth outfielder.

I have reservations as to whether or not Ankiel is the answer everyday in center field but Farnsworth should solidify an already very good Braves bullpen.
