8/7: Braves Minor League Scoreboard

Gwinnett 11, Lehigh Valley 7
Kenshin Kawakami: 2.2 IP, 5 H, ER, BB, K
Freddie Freeman: 4-5, 2 2B, 3 RBI
Wilkin Ramirez: 2-5, 2B, HR, 2 RBI
Brandon Hicks: 2-4, 2B, HR, RBI

Kawakami gave up two doubles and three singles in less than three innings, but only one run in his first start for Gwinnett. Several pitchers appeared behind him, including Scott Proctor, who gave up two hits in a scoreless inning, and Stephen Marek, who gave up a home run in the ninth but struck out two. Freeman is 9-13 with three doubles, a homer, and six RBIs in his last three games. He’s 16-37 with two homers and 12 RBIs in his last ten games. Matt Young added two hits, including a double, and Wes Timmons walked twice.

Birmingham 5, Mississippi 3
Julio Teheran: 6 IP, 3 H, BB, 7 K
Yeliar Castro: 0.2 IP, H, 5 ER, 4 BB, 2 K
Eric Duncan: 1-4, HR, 2 RBI
Tyler Pastornicky: 1-4, 2B, RBI

Teheran dominated in his third AA start, allowing two singles and a double over six shutout innings. The opposing team reached third base once while he was on the mound, putting runners on second and third in the second. But Teheran struck out the next two to get out of it. He was perfect from the third to the sixth, when he gave up a single in his final inning. Teheran has pitched shutout baseball in his last 11.2 innings with just three hits allowed, walking four and striking out 14. What an incredible arm.

Myrtle Beach 6, Potomac 1
Zeke Spruill: 7 IP, 5 H, ER, 5 K
Cory Harrilchak: 2-3, 3B, RBI
Gerardo Rodriguez: 2-2, 2 RBI
Samuel Sime: 2-3, RBI
Mycal Jones: 1-4, 2B, RBI

Spruill pitched seven strong innings, allowing a double and homer and the rest singles. It’s only his first earned run and second total in his last 14 innings, walking one and striking out eight over that stretch. Walks are definitely not the problem, but a lack of strikeouts are concerning, and seeing five tonight is good. Five Pelicans had two hits each. Michael Jones and Jordan Kreke are the ones not mentioned above.

Potomac 4, Myrtle Beach 3
Cory Rasmus: 5 IP, 5 H, ER, 3 BB, 2 K
Dan Nelson: 1-3, RBI
Michael Jones: 1-3, RBI
Thomas Berryhill: 1.2 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, BB, K

Rasmus gave up a couple doubles and three walks in five innings but otherwise pitched good. His strikeout numbers, however, are not good. He has eight strikeouts in 15 innings so far for MB and 80 total over 99 innings between Rome and MB. Berryhill made his A+ debut and it didn’t go well, blowing the game in the final inning and giving up a home run.

Greenville 12, Rome 6
Brett DeVall: 6 IP, 13 H, 10 ER, 3 BB, 4 K
Christian Bethancourt: 3-4, 2B, RBI
Edward Salcedo: 1-4, HR, 2 RBI
Philip Gosselin: 2-5, RBI

DeVall got rocked. That much is obvious. Riaan Spanjer-Furstenburg added two hits. Bobby Rauh went 2-4 with a double. Todd Cunningham added an RBI. Salcedo hit his first home run for Rome and drove in runs for the first time in over a week.

Kingsport 6, Danville 2
David Filak: 6 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, BB, 5 K
Jakob Dalfonso: 2-4, RBI
Barrett Kleinknecht: 1-4, RBI

Filak had ten groundouts to two flyouts and allowed just one double and five singles over six solid innings. I’d like to see what he can do from the rotation every fifth day.
