Quick Chipper Jones Injury Update

Via the Braves official Twitter feed, the Chipper Jones MRI exam won’t happen until tomorrow. The Braves along with Jones remain cautiously optimistic. Also according to Joe Simpson on the TV broadcast just a few minutes ago, Chipper woke up this morning with soreness but not a lot of swelling and reported that the more he moved around the better it felt. Hopefully it is not something that will shut him down for a significant amount of time although a trip to the DL is still very likely.

The Braves don’t have a lot of options in terms of replacing Chipper over the long haul. Martin Prado could play third or Omar Infante could slide over there once Prado is back in the lineup. David O’Brien tweets that Prado will try and take live batting practice on Friday and may need a day or two rehab assignment before being activated. Brooks Conrad also could fill in during the short term but by inserting him in the starting lineup it weakens the Braves bench which has been a strength the entire season. We will update as soon as more information about the Chipper Jones injury comes available.
