Braves and Cubs Talking Derek Lee Trade?

facebooktwitterreddit

Our friends at Talking Chop first reported a rumor that was posted by Chicago Writer David Kaplan that the Chicago Cubs were in discussions to send first baseman Derrick Lee to the Atlanta Braves. Please check to their links for the story.

It appears that none of the Braves top prospects are involved with the Braves being responsible for nearly all of the money that is still owed to Lee the rest of the season. Concerns over the trade are about Lee’s balky back which has flared up from time to time. Still at this point he would be a major upgrade over Troy Glaus at first.

*Update*

"Kapman says Lee will accept deal to ATL, and I confirmed this with an ATL source. Deal should go down, as long as Lee’s back is OK."

David Kaplan via Twitter

"Sources confirm to me that D-Lee will accept trade. Prospects are being worked out as we speak. Plz credit @thekapman."

It appears this deal will get done as soon as the Braves have the opportunity to check out the condition of Derek Lee’s back. We will update with more details as soon as they become available.
