A grand slam by Derrek Lee was the big hit the Braves needed, as it put them ahead of the Mets for good, giving them a 6-3 win and series sweep.

The Mets went ahead early with a two-run home run by David Wright in the first. Alex Gonzalez put the Braves on the board in the second with a RBI single. The Braves continued to threaten but couldn’t tie it over the next several innings, leaving a runner on third in the third and getting thrown out stretching a double into a triple in the fifth. Gonzalez finally struck again in the sixth with a two-out RBI single that tied it at two.

The Braves loaded the bases in the seventh with one out, but Brian McCann popped out to second base. With two outs, Lee smacked an upper deck grand slam to put the Braves ahead by four. The Mets managed a run in the home half of the seventh, but that was it.

Lee went 2-5 with a homer and four RBIs. After a 0-9 stretch, Lee is now 5-11 with a double, homer and four RBIs in his last three games. Gonzalez was equally important to the win today, recording two two-out RBI singles. McCann and Omar Infante each had two hits and a walk. The Braves picked up 12 hits and six walks.

Derek Lowe allowed just three singles and a home run in six innings, resulting in two runs. He walked one and struck out two, recording 14 groundouts to two fly outs. It was another great outing for Lowe, who has now allowed three runs in his last 20 innings, totaling 41 groundouts to 14 fly outs, one walk and 16 strikeouts. Eric O’Flaherty allowed a run in an inning. Jonny Venters pitched a scoreless eighth. Craig Kimbrel struck out the side in the ninth for his first career save.

R.A. Dickey allowed four runs on 10 hits in six innings. Two of the runs on the grand slam were charged to him, one was charged to Pedro Feliciano and the other charged to Manny Acosta, who gave up the slam. Wright recorded the two RBIs for the Mets. Carlos Beltran and Ike Davis picked up two hits each.

Standings will be posted this evening once all games are completed. The series of the season begins Monday at 7:05. Jair Jurrjens faces Cole Hamels.
