FanSided Network Charity Drive

AUTHOR: | IN: Braves | COMMENTS: None Yet

Hello everyone, As one of the newest members of the FanSided family, I’ve been asked to pass along to everyone here at Tomahawk Take some great news about a great charity effort this holiday season. The FanSided network has partnered up with Site5 (our dynamite web hosting company partner) on a seasonal charity drive to raise money for a great cause — the Boys and Girls Club of America. What better cause could there be to support than a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children, especially one that focuses on sports as a way of reaching those kids? This Holiday [...]

Should Moylan Be Counted On?

AUTHOR: | IN: Braves | COMMENTS: None Yet

As was pointed out here at Tomahawk Take, the Braves now must look at the last two major areas of concern for 2011, the bullpen and the bench. There seems to be universal agreement that the arsenal of young power arms that the Braves will take to battle needs a calming veteran presence. Since there’s no Billy Wagner around, the question is who should fill that role. An obvious candidate is Peter Moylan, but is he a good candidate?

You Might Be a Thankful Braves Fan If…

AUTHOR: | IN: Braves | COMMENTS: None Yet

On behalf of Tomahawk Take and the entire Fansided network, please let me add my own Thanksgiving wishes to each and every one of you. And, as Patrik noted, a special call out goes to those in the Armed Services here and abroad. I for one am most thankful for the sacrifices you make so that my family and I can enjoy the freedom that’s so easy to take for granted. I initially was going to write one of those traditional posts about what I was most thankful for, then I thought that everyone might be getting a bit tired [...]

Happy Thanksgiving!

AUTHOR: | IN: Braves | COMMENTS: None Yet

We’d just like to take a moment to wish you all a very happy and healthy Thanksgiving. Hopefully you all are in the company of loved ones, enjoying some delicious food and some good football today. Whatever your Thanksgiving traditions may be, we hope you are enjoying them and keeping safe. And to all of our armed forces both abroad and away from home (as well as those lucky enough to be with their families on this most American of holidays), we would like to thank you for your service and sacrifice and wish you safety. We’ll keep you all [...]

A Stroll Down Memory Lane

AUTHOR: | IN: Braves | COMMENTS: None Yet

It’s effectively the off-season, and though free agency continues, the Braves look as though they’ve made their major move and will now have a quiet off-season from here on out. So with that in mind I thought maybe we could break up the monotony with a stroll down memory lane. Earlier today Bleacher Report compiled a list of the top 50 greatest pitching teams of all time. It’s hardly authoritative, not scientific at all, but who doesn’t love a good list? The top 50 teams span all eras and generations of the game and the list makes for a pretty good read [...]

Braves Pave Way for Freddie Freeman

AUTHOR: | IN: Braves | COMMENTS: 8 Comments

It looks as though Troy Glaus and Derrek Lee will be headed for free agency after the Atlanta Braves declined to offer them arbitration today. Glaus and Lee more or less platooned at first base for the Braves last season, though platoon may not be the best word as injuries caused the Braves to trade for, and switch to, Derrek Lee about two-thirds of the way into the season. Troy Glaus actually represented a heck of a bargain, and one of the few moves I actually give Frank Wren a positive grade for. Coming in after missing all of 2009 [...]

Braves Sign Bullpen Candidate Jay Sborz

AUTHOR: | IN: Braves, FanSided, Minor Leagues, Transactions | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

The Braves have signed former Tiger farmhand Jay Sborz to a minor league deal, with an invite to spring training.

The Braves have a very limited budget left to fill holes in the bullpen and on their bench. They view Sborz as an affordable right-handed option for the 7th and 8th innings.

Chipper Gives “Chipper” Update on Knee

AUTHOR: | IN: Braves | COMMENTS: None Yet

In an interview with Carroll Rogers of the AJC, Chipper Jones reported that his rehab from knee surgery was going well, with no setbacks. In fact, Chipper said he’s been able to “climb trees and walk miles upon miles of rough terrain”. He plans to begin hitting in December, though he says the doctors have cleared him to begin already and the knee has responded well on the golf course. All signs say that Chipper is taking the rehab seriously and that he’ll be ready for opening day. If so, lookout Phillies!

Braves Add Three Players To 40-Man Roster

AUTHOR: | IN: Braves | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

As reported by talkingchop.com, the Braves added RHP Randall Delgado, RHP Cory Gearrin, and OF Matt Young to the team’s 40-man roster. Probably the most significant factor in the moves is the fact that this protects all three players from exposure in the Rule 5 draft. Given the uncertainty the Braves face in CF, the “old” (28!) Young might finally get a chance to play at Turner Field. I say “Give Speed A Chance”, with all due respect to John Lennon

Will the Real Chipper Jones, Please Stand Up?

AUTHOR: | IN: Braves | COMMENTS: None Yet

Okay, I profess to be old enough to know the origins of the question; I’ve even played the To Tell The Truth video game a time or two. What I don’t know for sure is whether I can tell you which Chipper will show up for Opening Day. Will it be the mortal-lock Hall-Of-Famer who we’ve had the good fortune to watch for nearly 20 years, or will it be the struggling imposter who inhabited his uniform from all-star break 2009 to close to the same time in 2010? When I first contemplated this post, I was thinking the focus [...]
