Braves drop 2nd straight to Cards

AUTHOR: | IN: Braves, Game Recap | COMMENTS: None Yet

I had to listen the game today on XM because Fox Sports decided the folks here in Abilene wanted to see the Rays/Angels game presumably because we’re closer to Arlington than Houston. Those guys aren’t very smart really, they were running Fantastic Four on FX this afternoon and all of their sports networks were going unused. They could increase their ratings by simply giving viewers a choice except of course for blackouts – don’t get me started on that. ANYWAY. . . . Today’s game, like the one last night, was a close, well pitched affair. Jake Westbrook kept the [...]

Home Runs and On Base Percentage

AUTHOR: | IN: Braves | COMMENTS: None Yet

Hello everyone from southeast Michigan, home of the 40 degree Spring day! Of course, when I see all the devastation that has hit the southeast, it sure makes being chilly a lot more tolerable. Fortunately, all my family in Georgia and South Carolina seem to be fine; I hope the same is true for all of you and your families. On the baseball front, things are obviously quiet for Braves fans on a rare off day. Despite what could charitably be called a struggling offense, the Braves were able to turn around their road trip and come home with a [...]

After A Suitable Cooling Off Period, Here’s What I Think

AUTHOR: | IN: Braves | COMMENTS: None Yet

Hello again everyone from the sun, fun capital of the Midwest, Southeast Michigan! Yep, the sun shines here at least one day a month until summer, at which time the weather magically changes and becomes a truly wonderful environment to live it. And I’m waiting for summer!!! Speaking of summer, or at least the Boys Of Summer, wasn’t that a heart-breaker last night? I stayed up ’til the last pitch. Freakin’ last pitch! A 5-3, 13 inning loss! I wanted to blame someone for the loss, big time. There were quite a few choices, as any of you who watched [...]

What Was Fredi Thinking?

AUTHOR: | IN: Braves | COMMENTS: 5 Comments

Hello again everyone from lovely Michigan! I couldn’t force myself to wait to post this, and I really hope we get some discussion on this. What the hell was Fredi thinking leaving Jairo Asencio in the game as he was getting knocked around in the seventh inning? It was obvious, at least on TV, that he didn’t have his good stuff when the inning started. He was not able to locate his breaking stuff and his changeup had no tilt. Every hitter (save Pat Burrell, who got on with a 50 foot swinging bunt) put good wood on the ball [...]

Happy 39th Chipper Jones

AUTHOR: | IN: Braves | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

Happy Birthday greetings are surely in order for future Hall of Famer and Face of the Braves franchise since 1995 Chipper Jones. I’ve been a Braves fan since my return from Europe in 1991 and while I knopw Chipper wasn’t with the team until 95 I have a hard time picturing it without him There are few players who have stamped their face on a franchise and made it theirs. You can name them as well as I: Jeter, Bagwell and Biggio, Ripkin, Pujols – at least for now – and Chipper.

Short Strokes

AUTHOR: | IN: Braves | COMMENTS: 5 Comments

Hello again everyone from the sunshine state; that would be Michigan, of course, where the mercury hit 68 degrees today! It was so nice that my wife decided that it would be a great day for me to pick up a winter’s worth of dog poop from the yard. I started to post a poll to see how much you guys thought that would weigh, coming from my four eighty-pound labs LOL! It was as crappy as not being able to watch today’s game due to Fox’s Saturday blackout. Being as Fred already posted a game summary, I thought it [...]

Huddy Throws a Gem, Prado Delivers the Runs

AUTHOR: | IN: Braves, Game Preview, Game Recap | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

There’s no other way to say it, Tim Hudson was superb. His first inning woes were absent and though the Giants scored one in the second it was immediately answered by the Braves in the top of the third. In reality they never looked like getting to him after that though Burrell’s double in the ninth resulted in a second run, Hudson quickly got Ross and pinch hitter Schierholtz. He might well have finished the game but with Posey pinch hitting Skipper Gonzalez went to Craig Kimbrel for the third straight game. Kimbrel’s fastball was still 95-96 and Posey flied [...]

Braves Best Bumgarner – Chipper Out – Pitcher signed

AUTHOR: | IN: Braves, Game Preview, Game Recap, Injury, Transactions | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

I stayed up and watched late into the night to watch the Braves and Giants hoping to see some signs of a turn around offensively and from Tommy Hanson.  Their first victory since Tuesday came was a relief as was the super pitching of Hanson, Jonny Venters and Craig Kimbrel. Overall however, the performance was a mixed bag.

Braves Call Up Gearrin, Assign Young to Gwinnett

AUTHOR: | IN: Braves | COMMENTS: None Yet

Hello again everyone! The news keeps raining down, I guess so it can match the weather up here! The Braves made two roster moves today. They brought up right-handed reliever Cory Gearrin from AAA Gwinnett. To make room on the roster, they sent Matt Young back down to Gwinnett.
