Nice Job, Mr. Minor!

Hello again everyone from flood ravaged Michigan, where our zillion lakes are trying to prove they can keep up with all the other flooding going on. The seven inches of rain in my rain gauge the past 24 hours is helping, I assure you.

On the baseball front, I noticed that habitual hat-tippers Brian McCann and Fredi Gonzalez didn’t tip their hats to the fine job done by Mike Minor today. In fact, the quality of his outing was lost in the hoopla over the game-winning two-run home run hit by Brooks Conrad in the 11th inning of today’s 4-2 victory over the Pirates. So, consider this a pinch-hit cap tip :-).

In what appeared to me to be a much more relaxed manner, Minor gave up only one run in 5 2/3 innings of work, allowing seven hits and two walks while fanning five. If not for the homer given up by that bum Eric O’Flaherty, he stood to record his first win of the season (we should release EOF; who needs a left-handed reliever with a 1.38 ERA who almost never allows inherited runners to score and almost never leaves a mess for others to clean up?). 🙂

I think outings like this prove that the team can afford to trade from depth in starting pitching to bring in a big bat, not just another relic from bottom-feeding. But I’m also starting to think that the Braves’ pitching is good enough to win 90 games evev if they stand pat. But that’s my Take; what’s yours?
