Chipper Undergoing Surgery Today

Hello again everyone!

I wanted to make sure that you all had heard that Chipper Jones is indeed undergoing knee surgery today at 3 PM.

The Braves have placed Chipper on the DL and recalled Brandon Hicks from AAA.

Chipper was quoted as saying that he didn’t want to keep trying to play through this and wind up having to have the surgery in September and then missing the playoffs. Further, he said that the knee bothered him more batting right-handed, thus with two left handed pitchers coming up for the Phillies, he went ahead and had the surgery today.

Recovery estimates have varied from two to four weeks. I imagine that a better estimate will be available post-surgery. Let’s hope for the best. At least doing it now will allow him to recover during the All-Star break. I sure hate not having him there for the last two games against Philadelphia.
