Injury Updates; Chipper Human After All

Hello again everyone from sweltering southeast Michigan, where we could see triple digits again today. Unheard of territory, for sure!

Speaking of unheard of territory, Chipper Jones was approaching unheard of heights with the speed of his recovery from his surgery for a torn meniscus in his right knee. The latest news might mean that he has decided to store his Superman cape for another day.

Early reports had Chipper actually coming off the DL on the 25th, even joining the Braves for the last game of their current road trip. Things started to change late this week. While no one will admit that there was a setback, Chipper delayed the start of his rehab appearances, deciding not to play for Rome this weekend. He’ll workout with the big team when they return to Atlanta on Monday, where he will try to work out the residual soreness he is experiencing in the right leg. If all goes well, look for his return to occur next weekend against the Marlins.

While I would have loved to see him play a game at Great American Home Run Park, I guess it’s better to take the long view with his 39 year old body. Here’s to hoping that he has an injury-free remainder of the the season.

The news is good on the two most recent injuries. I haven’t seen today’s lineup posted yet, but I expect Uggla to start, following his game winning pinch hit home run last night and his reports that he is 100%. The reports are also good on the jammed finger of Jordan Schafer. Reading between the lines, though, I think he might still be a day away from starting.

Well, it’s off to do a little more prep for a trip to New York for the regular job. As always, your take is welcome.
