Braves August End On Positive Beat

AUTHOR: | IN: Braves, Game Recap, NL East, Trade, Transactions | COMMENTS: None Yet

After Jair Jurrjens disappointing performance on Tuesday many Braves fans were not looking forward to Derek Lowe taking the hill tonight. They were wrong. Lowe went six strong and gave up only one run on three hits – a homer to Mike Morse – struck out six and walked a pair. The slider was biting and the sinker killed a lot of worms out in front of home plate. Oh  and Lower hit his first major league home run at the age of 38. Not bad at all, it looks like September Derek arrived a day early. Each of his [...]

What’s Old Is New Again: Say Hello To Matt Diaz!

AUTHOR: | IN: Braves, Trade | COMMENTS: None Yet

Hello again from southeast Michigan, where the weather has finally changed from beautiful and sunny to overcast and gloomy. Let’s hope that’s not a harbinger of things to come on the Braves front, especially in light of the news that came over the wire a little while ago about the return of Matt Diaz.

So Where Do YOU Rank Chipper All-Time?

AUTHOR: | IN: Braves, Poll | COMMENTS: None Yet

Hello once again! I’ve decided that I shouldn’t have all the fun ranking Chipper all-time, especially since we haven’t conducted a poll in a month or so. To keep the poll simple, let’s assume that the Top Six All-Time Third Basemen (in alphabetical order) are as I posited in my last post: Wade Boggs George Brett Chipper Jones Eddie Mathews Brooks Robinson Mike Schmidt

So Where Does Chipper Rank All TIme At Third Base?

AUTHOR: | IN: Braves | COMMENTS: None Yet

Hello again everyone from that vacation paradise of southeast Michigan, where the weather continues to be spectacular. Wow, who would believe that the best weather in the country could be this close to Detroit? All kidding aside, though, all my thoughts and best wishes go out to those who were impacted by Hurricane Irene. I lived through (and stupidly rode out) Hurricane Andrew myself as a resident of south Florida at the time, so I have a lot of empathy for those folks. Moving on to better things, I ran across an excellent blog post over on the ESPN blog [...]

Braves Rework Rotation In Wake Of Irene Break

AUTHOR: | IN: Braves | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Hello again everyone from heavenly southeast Michigan, where the weather today was in the upper 70′s with a gentle breeze, almost no humidity, and nary a cloud in the sky. Makes you appreciate it even more when you look at the aftermath of Hurricane Irene. Having ridden out Hurricane Andrew in south Florida in 1992, I do have an appreciation for what the east coast is going through. While the Braves are enjoying the 3 day break in competition they are in the midst of as a result of the postponement of Saturday and Sunday’s games versus the Mets, the [...]

Sunday Without The Braves

AUTHOR: | IN: Braves | COMMENTS: None Yet

No Braves baseball for the second straight day and another one like it ahead. In the post World Series / pre-spring training months when only those filler sports are offered, I fill my time with the mundane in life – work, movies, TV shows, a holiday or three – but times like these leave me at loose ends. My mind tends to wander and as you’ll see, perhaps it shouldn’t be out on its own for very long. Like most you MLB tries to keep me occupied – and get more of my money – with email offers to buy [...]

Braves Have To Be Strong Down The Stretch

AUTHOR: | IN: Braves | COMMENTS: None Yet

This weekends disruption of the schedule couldn’t have come at a worse time for the Braves. A look at the revised schedule below will tell you why.

Tommy Hanson Has Small Rotator Cuff Tear

AUTHOR: | IN: Braves, Injury | COMMENTS: None Yet

Hello once again everyone. I’m coming to you with a follow-up report on the health of Tommy Hanson. Unfortunately, and as I had feared, there is structural damage to Hanson’s shoulder. The Braves are playing down the severity of the injury, but given their recent history of issuing information on his injury that is, at best, misleading, I have no idea if the information is a full report or if the Braves are again being “selective”.

Final Two Games Of Mets Series Postponed

AUTHOR: | IN: Braves | COMMENTS: None Yet

Hello again everyone from southeast Michigan, where the weather is beautiful and the baseball is pretty good by standards other than those of the Braves and Phillies! Speaking of weather, things aren’t so copacetic in the New York area, or at least things won’t be very nice in a day or so. And, in anticipation of Hurricane Irene reaching land, the last two games of the series between the Mets and Braves have already been postponed.

Chipper, As Predicted, On Hot Streak

AUTHOR: | IN: Braves | COMMENTS: None Yet

Hello one more time from Michigan tonight. While waiting to see Craig Kimbrel enter the game in the ninth to put away the Cubbies and tie the all-time rookie saves record at 40, I just had to take the opportunity to blow my own horn for a minute about the play of Chipper Jones.
