Sweeping up at the end of the trip

The braves finished the sweep of the Marlins pretty easily tonight. Anibal Sanchez was not good and the Braves jumped out to a 6-0 lead quickly behind and other fine Tim Hudson outing. The stories of the day besides Dan Uggla continuing to hit in every game, were the request for waivers with intent to release Scott Proctor and the call up of Arodys Vizcaino.

Vizcaino got into the game in the 9th with a 6-2 lead and you could see the stuff was there. He allowed a hit, a walk and hit a batter leaving the bases loaded for Jonny Venters to come on and get a save.  Braves fans have been anticipating his call up as the hype built during the year and Proctor in particular looked washed up down in the pen. There is no doubting the young man’s stuff. His curve at 84 was nasty enough to leave Logan Morrison shaking his head as he headed back to the bench especially when the fastball was a steady 96-97. I hope this isn’t too much for the young man, he is a fine talent but the jump to the Majors from AA – with 7 whole innings in AAA – is huge. It may be that he’s a stopgap until a trade can be made off the wire or one of disabled righties – Scott Linebrink and Peter Moylan – make it back; or both. That would be a the wise move in my opinion.  I still think we need another RH in the pen but many think Linebrink will do; I disagree. But who listens to me .

This is a short post (stop applauding I can hear you) as I have to pack for the airplane to Atlanta in the morning, I’ll be at Bobby’s luncheon on Friday and at the game that night to watch Mike Minor and on Saturday to see Brandon Beachy up close.  I’ll tweet as I find something worth babbling about. If interested I’m @fredeowens on Twitter. I follow back if you choose to follow. Go Braves!
