Good News On Peter Moylan

Hello again everyone!

Now that I’ve shared a ray of sunshine with my report on Tommy Hanson, I thought I’d soften the impact a little bit by posting a quick update on Peter Moylan. And this report really is a ray of sunshine, I guess all the way from down under!

Peter Moylan actually started the game for AAA Gwinnett on Monday, even if he did only pitch an inning. From what I read, the inning couldn’t in honesty be described as pretty unless you are from the school that thinks any inning in which you are not scored upon is a pretty inning!

Moylan gave up a walk and a single and struck out one batter, all while throwing a total of 18 pitches. Kind of like a newborn who has all his fingers and toes, Moylan had all his pitches working. No word on his velocity.

Moylan remains on track for activation from the DL on September 1st when rosters are expanded. There’s no reason to activate him before that, especially with him currently residing on the 60 day DL.

Having a healthy Moylan for the playoffs would be a huge plus, especially with the emergence of Arodys Vizcaino. In essence, the team would have a solid “Group A” and a solid “Group B” of pitchers to handle the seventh and eighth innings. That’s a rare thing, and even rarer in combination with the starting pitching the Braves have to offer.

That’s my take, at least. Care to share yours?
