Braves match up well with the Baltimore Orioles: Trade Rumors

I am sure you all have seen by now but the Braves and Orioles have apparently had trade talks. Per MLB Trade Rumors:

The Orioles and Braves have discussed a deal that included both righty Jair Jurrjens and infielder/outfielder Martin Prado, reported Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports yesterday… The Orioles don’t seem to be in a position to move significant young players for two years of Jurrjens, despite their current rotation uncertainty.

This is the best timed rumor of the off season actually as I am going to be going over Adam Jones later today. No one has said a lot about Adam Jones but he is probably going to be the center piece of a deal if this does end up happening. There have been rumors of Jurrjens and Prado as well as just Jurrjens.

You guys know how much I like Prado so I am obviously on the side rooting for a Jurrjens only trade.

Andrew Vigliotti of Ball Game Talk  goes over some potential trade scenarios and I am really a fan of the first scenario.

Scenario one: Orioles acquire Jurrjens for Adam JonesRobert BundyJonathon Schoop

That sounds good to me. The pitching depth wouldn’t take as big a hit with Bundy added to the organization and Jonathan Schoop would give us a nice second base prospect. I will talk about what Jones would bring us more in my post later today but it would be an upgrade to the offense.

Acquiring Jurrjens makes sense for the Orioles as they are in need of pitching. Their rotation is young and somewhat under question.

Vig says that the trade could make sense for the Orioles but he also told me that because of where the Orioles are at as a team, they are going to want to hang on to their prospects.

We will just have to wait and see what happens…

Scenario one is not a scenario anybody with a pulse would make. Jurrjens for Jones and a fringe prospect would be fair but Jones and two top minor league prospects? Way too much. Only a Braves fan would consider that. Jurrjens isn’t worth it.

@charles81 I agree…scenario 1 is wishful thinking. Robert Bundy isn’t going to be included in any deal, simply because the Orioles would like to keep his brother/top prospect (2011 #4 overall pick) Dylan Bundy happy. Schoop is also a top prospect, so I can’t see this happening.

Part of me is more interested in Jonathan Schoop than Adam Jones. Schoop can play SS, 3B, 2B, or CF, has a great arm, fantastic bat, and from Curacao (a place Braves have extensively scouted and ironically where Jurrjens is from). Orioles have a solid middle infield depth, with Hardy, Roberts, Manny Machado and others, so they could be willing to part with Schoop. He’s the perfect toolsy prospect in my opinion, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he blossomed to be one of the game’s best in a couple years.

@charles81 Yep, the first deal is definitely not going to happen. But Jones plus another prospect I would consider a good deal.

@dadofkyra Haha, well… Maybe it has more sugar than needed. But yeah I would be ecstatic if the first trade was made which normally does mean its unfair for the other team. Frank Wren is apparently looking for a Greinke type return so we might get it out of someone but the Orioles should hang on to their prospects.

@Tntoriole I don’t know a lot about Tillman and Bell. Personally I would rather keep Prado and get less of a return in prospects. Say Jurrjens for Jones + a decent prospect?

@CarlosCollazo @Tntoriole no way jones goes straight up for jurrgens…braves eager to get rid of pitchers that then end up injured in short order…you all would have to include more….

@Tntoriole Yeah I agree with you at this point. I had undervalued Jones a while ago. He has some real potential.
