‘Take Classic Video of the Day: Kenner Starting Lineups

facebooktwitterreddit

When I was a kid, these were all I wanted. Kenner Starting Lineup Figures. They were all that mattered, and all I measured any Christmas or birthday in.

Every toy or video game or present was completely secondary. From the time that my father took me to the local drug store and bought me a 1988 Mike Schmidt, and a 1988 Eddie Murray; I was completely hooked like an addict.

Pretty soon I added Barry Larkin and Darryl Strawberry to my collection. And then my entire two bedroom book cases were filled with them. I would call and harass my grandfather while down at his Florida home this time of year–it was important that he checked all the local flea markets, you see. The flea markets by where he lived in Florida would have some of the really hard to find, holy-grail Starting Lineup Figures.

And when I would harass him as to whom he found me at the flea markets and who I was getting for Christmas (I remember I tortured him over a 1994 Greg Maddux and a 1994 Brett Favre until the point where it’s almost not even humane), he would eventually hang up on me and my grandmother would give in and call me back, saying grandpa was irritated with my nagging about Christmas presents.

Starting Lineups. Ah I miss you so. Take me back to the days of being a kid when these were in so I can find a few under my tree this year. And gramps, if you’re up there looking down on me I’m sorry I was such a knucklehead from around Thanksgiving until Christmas Day. I love ya man.
