Braves Announce Opening Day Roster, Hudson Looks Strong

That’s it, folks. It is so close to opening day, the roster is at 25 players. The Braves announced the final roster cuts today after their game with the Mets and it was not all too surprising.

Tyler Pastornicky will be the Opening Day shortstop and that means that Andrelton Simmons will be sent to the minors but no level has been announced yet. Randall Delgado got the final rotation spot meaning Julio Teheran will get some AAA time. Yohan Flande supplanted Cory Gearrin for the last spot in the bullpen as Fredi and co. probably feel more comfortable with a third left-handed pitcher with three right handers that have the ability to go long – Cristhian Martinez, Livan Hernandez and Kris Medlen.

The final bench spot went to Jose Constanza which also was not a big surprise.

Perhaps the biggest news of the day, however, was Tim Hudson going two innings, facing seven hitters and not allowing much of anything. This is very good news for the Braves,  and despite all the talk about the fifth starter position, it will become moot once Hudson is healthy and a good Hudson means an even better Braves rotation. That is good news – regardless of any arguing over the fifth starter, last guy in the bullpen or 25th man on the bench.

What do you feel ATL’s reasoning for keeping Constanza in lieu of Sutton, Durango or Parraz?

Off topic completely, but have yall discussed the idea of striking out on your own and saying Sayonara to this Fansided? It’s always down, glitchy, or just crummy in performance. I love the content and the community here, but the hosting site SUCKS

@SavBravesFan I think it just comes down to a numbers game. Constanza (or whoever that pick was) will likely go down as soon as Chipper comes back and he is the only one out of those 4 that is currently on the 40-man roster. You don’t want to add someone on the 40-man for what could be a couple of weeks at the beginning of the season.

@clearwallThe outages do suck, but everything should be resolved. It’s not something we enjoy but we thank you for checking out the site and hope to put the issues behind us.

@clearwall Yeah I’d like to apologize for the down time. As you know we just switched to a bigger server to accommodate the increase in traffic but apparently one of the processors is bad. I’m no tech guy so I couldn’t tell you what exactly that means but we have been informed that the new piece is on its way to fix the problem. After that is taken care of it should be smooth sailing. The hosting issues a month ago was do to the transition in servers.

But we definitely do appreciate the feedback and I hope you can tolerate the tech issues for a bit to keep coming back for the content.

@JaredBook Also with the addition of Juan Francisco we didn’t need a corner outfielder as much as a center fielder. Diaz is obviously a waste on the bench and I can’t explain that one but Jared is pretty much right on with the 40-man roster point.
