Ross Leads Braves To Series Win

In the rubber game of the last home series of the season, the Braves get a fairly comfortable 6-2 victory.  The Nationals lost today, leaving the Braves three games back, still clinging to a slight possibility of a division tiebreaker game.

  • David Ross hit a 3-run homer in the second inning to kick off the scoring this afternoon.  It was his 9th homer of the season, the ninth Brave to reach that mark this season.  The White Sox, A’s, and Phillies also have nine such players, while the Yankees have ten.
  • Kris Medlen had a great tune-up start before the play-in game on Friday.  He allowed one unearned run in his six innings, only needing 79 pitches.  He finishes the season 10-1 with a 1.57 ERA over 138 innings.
  • Michael Bourn reached base three times in his return to the lineup from a thumb injury.  Chipper Jones and Andrelton Simmons also managed to get on base thrice.
  • Craig Kimbrel picked up his 42nd save on the season, getting Fred Lewis to ground out to end the game.  With that out, he drops just below 50% strikeouts on the season.

Both Eric Hinske and Juan Francisco struck out against right-handed relievers today. Will the lack of bench production (outside of Ross) come back to hurt the Braves?
