"Stupid Decisions" Cause Braves To Fall 4-3

Plenty of hits but not enough timely hits was the story of the night for the Braves Thursday in Turner Field.

Atlanta tallied 13 hits last night but were only able to cross the plate three times.

After the game Manager Fredi Gonzalez spoke on the offense “We had 13 hits and only three runs….yeah….that’s about it.  We had people on base but couldn’t get the knock when we needed to.”

Tyler Pastornicky, and Gaird Laird each had three hits in the contest.  Jason Heyward, Freddie Freeman and Justin Upton included two hits each.  Post game, Gonzalez spoke on Pastornicky’s offensive burst in his first game back to the MLB level “He got on base and created some stuff, it’s nice to get him in there and get him involved in our lineup…he’s a good piece.”

B.J. Upton hit right behind his brother, Justin, in the 5th spot and went 0-5 leaving five runners on base.  Andrelton Simmons also came up in critical situations, leaving four runners on base.  In all, the Braves left 22 base runners on base!

Mike Minor was on the bump for the Braves, going six complete innings allowing nine hits while giving up four runs.  Three of the four runs came off solo home runs.  David Wright was Minor’s worst enemy last night getting three hits and two home runs.

Minor spoke in the post game media circle “David Wright, he’s a really good hitter, and then to throw a fastball over the middle of the plate, you just can’t do that.  It was up and middle, and then a hanging curveball that was up and middle.  That’s what that guy does.”

Skipper Gonzalez spoke about Minor “I think Mike (Minor) did a great job, he gave up three solo home runs and our bullpen did a terrific job…we just didn’t get that extra run.”

Minor continued with his presser “The home runs were just bad pitches.  Hanging curveball, a fastball over the middle of the plate and then a first-pitch hanging slider.  So I give the credit to those guys.  They were bad pitches, and they took them out of the yard.”

This made it back-to-back games that Minor has given up four earned runs.  His ERA is still below 3.00 as it sits at 2.89 after last nights contest.

Minor ended the conversation with the media with this “In certain situations I make bad pitches and make stupid decisions and don’t throw the ball down in the zone when I need to.  I just couldn’t locate where I wanted to tonight”
