Braves Hit Three Homers, Top Diamondbacks 6-2

The Braves followed up their first two wins against the Arizona Diamondbacks with a third to complete the sweep. The Braves didn’t need any late inning rallies this time, leading the game from the bottom of the third until the end, where the dust settled and Atlanta had a 6-2 win.

The victory came largely in part to the long ball, with Brian McCann, Freddie Freeman, andDan Uggla all hitting homeruns.

McCann got the Braves on the board in the first with a solo shot, Freeman grabbed the lead in the bottom of the third with a three-run blast, and Uggla provided some insurance with his two-run dinger in the fifth.

Paul Maholm had a nice outing, going 6.2 innings while allowing just two runs. He worked around eight hits and two walks to avoid giving up any big damage. Three strikeouts and three batters forced into double plays would also help him out of the game with limited damage done.

Lincoln Saltdogs

The Saltdogs are proud to announce that the contract of RHP Joe Bisenius has been purchased by the Atlanta Braves.  The American Association’s strikeout leader will report to Triple-A Gwinnett and enter the starting rotation.

Bisenius has reached the big leagues for the Philadelphia Phillies (2007) and Washington Nationals, and the 30-year old will be just a phone call away from reaching the show once more with the current National League East leaders.

An Omaha resident, Bisenius had 43 strikeouts over 37 innings, best in the American Association.  The 6-foot-4 hurler was 3-2 with a 3.89 ERA in six starts for Lincoln in 2013, and has posted a razor-thin 0.92 WHIP.

G-Braves Announce “Christmas in July” Promotion

The Gwinnett Braves have announced plans for a new “Christmas in July” promotion, helping support families and children in need in Gwinnett and surrounding counties. In association with local charities, the G-Braves will raise funds to allow underprivileged youth and their families to attend “Christmas in July Night” on Saturday, July 20 against Indianapolis.

The G-Braves are looking for businesses, groups and individuals to share in the holiday spirit and donate to the “Christmas in July” cause. For just $160, your organization can sponsor 20 underprivileged children and their families for the night. Sponsorship levels range from $160 to $1,600, with each level providing seats for the children and their families for the game.

All “Christmas in July” partners will have their name or company name listed on gwinnettbraves.com, as well as the team’s official Facebook and Twitter pages. Partners will also receive VIP seats to the game so that they can participate in the event.
