Gattis Activated – Freeman Sore Thumb

According to a tweet from Mark Bowman earlier today (and we now know it’s official), Evan Gattis has been activated off the DL and will play first base for the Atlanta Braves today.  Eric Single confirmed via Twitter that Freddie Freeman has a swollen, sore thumb, and while he may be available to play tonight should the need arise, he’ll likely sit the game out.  He is also questionable for the upcoming All Star Game because of thumb.

Freeman Update – 7/14/13 – 1:06 PM

According to David O’Brien of AJC.com, Freddie Freeman will travel to the All Star Game for Tuesday’s festivities, but will not play in the All Star Game.

B.J. Upton on DL

We’ve also learned from David O’Brien via Twitter that B.J. Upton has been placed on the DL, retroactive to yesterday, with a right adductor strain.

As always, we’ll do our best to help keep fans updated on the recent injuries to Jason Heyward, B.J. Upton, Justin Upton, and Freddie Freeman.  It will be interesting and exciting to see Evan Gattis back in the lineup tonight, and see if there are any leftover soreness from his oblique issues.  It will also be interesting to see if the problem with Freeman’s thumb will be severe enough to keep him out of the ASG [Update: We now know that Freddie Freeman will NOT be playing in the ASG.  He will travel there, but will NOT play.  See David O’Brien Update above].  It’s a dream come true for Freddie, and it would certainly be a shame if he couldn’t play at all.  We’d love to hear your comments on these breaking stories.
