The Atlanta Braves take on the Washington Nationals in the first of a three game series in at Washington. This is the first game of the nine left between the Nationals and Braves.
Going into the season many believed the Nationals would be the team to beat in the NL but so far have not lived up to expectations. Currently Washington sits in second place in the NL East with a 54-57 record. With 51 games remaining for the Nats, if they want to catch up to the Braves, they better start tonight….but sorry to crush your dreams, that’s not happening!
The Braves are red hot right now winning their last 10 games against good teams. They started the streak by sweeping the St. Louis Cardinals, then swept the Colorado Rockies and finally sweeping the Philadelphia Phillies. Now the Braves hold a 12.5 game lead going into Monday night.
“You are not going to give up on winning the division,” first baseman Adam LaRoche said. “It’s getting down to the point where games are a lot. We do have some ball left, but it’s going to take some really good ball.”
The Nats do put arguably their best pitcher on the mound as Stephen Strasburg squares off against the Braves Mike Minor. Strasburg is having a down year statically and holds a 5-9 record with a 3.04 ERA. Minor could hold the title as the Braves best pitcher as he is 11-5 with a 2.75 ERA.
Washington is still a very talented team and could go on a run (which I’m still not counting these guys out). So hopefully the Braves can stay hot tonight at 7:05pm and knock Strasburg out early.
Bryce Harper still has plenty of confidence though in his teams ability to comeback….
