The Atlanta Braves have released infielder Blake DeWitt, David O’Brien has reported.  The 27-year-old was signed by the Braves on December 1st, 2012 as a free agent after being let go by the Chicago Cubs.

In 2013, Blake has four plate appearances in four games, getting one hit against the Kansas City Royals on April 16th.  But was placed on the DL on April 20th with a lower back strain.

Since signing a minor league deal with the Braves in the off-season, DeWitt has seen little playing time at any level due to a lower-back injury.  He was brought up briefly early in the year, registering a double and sacrifice in four plate appearances for Atlanta.  DeWitt’s career line in the MLB are .257/.324/.381 over 1,247 plate appearances.

DeWitt was a 1st round draft pick in the 2004 amateur draft picked by the Los Angeles Dodgers with the 28th pick.
