Braves Put Brandon Beachy On DL Recall Cunningham

This afternoon the Braves placed Brandon Beachy on the 15 day D:L and recalled outfielder Todd Cunningham from Gwinnett.  Yesterday I wrote that after Beachy had elbow issues in last start he had an MRI and was going to see Dr. Andrews. Adding Beachy to the DL doesn’t indicate things are worse it simply gave the Braves roster room to call up Cunningham as outfield depth. Although Jason Heyward was placed on the 15 day DL Thursday the addition of Paul Maholm took his roster spot. I’ll assume they backdated Beachy’s DL to Wednesday so he’ll be eligible to come the 6th of September.

In other moves today the Braves released infielder Luis Nunez from Gwinnett. With the addition of Tyler Greene and the return of Phil Gosselin to Gwinnett after Elliot Johnson joined the Braves in St. Louis, they had to make room roster room there as well. Nunez was hitting just .250/.233/.321 for the G Braves in a utility role. As noted in an earlier post, Freddy Garcia joined Gwinnett today as well. Garcia’s last start for Norfolk was August 16th when he went 7 innings allowing six hits and two runs while getting the win. There’s no word when he’ll make his first start for Gwinnett.
