Braves Lineup – Chris Johnson Out

According to Mark Bowman Chris Johnson was scratched fro today’s series finale with Turf Toe. Paul Janish will play third.Turf toe is essentially a sprain of the ligaments around the big toe joint. It can be extremely painful. The only treatment is rest, ice, compression and elevation.  Typically ibuprofen is taken for pain and sometimes the toe is taped to the index toe to stabilize it.

This is just the latest blow to the Braves lineup and leaves only Freddie Freeman as the only regular hitting over 300. Today’s lineup:

Jordan Schafer, CF .264/.350/.384
Elliot Johnson, 2B.182/.182/.182
Freddie Freeman, 1B .316/.393/.484
Justin Upton, RF 266/.358/.484
Gerald Laird, C  .284/.376/.398

Any idea if the Braves will DL him? I’d rather him be DLed now and not try to play through it. I think Chipper tried that a couple of years ago with Turf Toe, and it didn’t work out so well.

Unlikely right now. He’s listed day-to-day and with the roster expansion coming in 5 days there’s little impetus to do it. I recall Chipper’s turf toe and it’s true these things don;t just heal over night but the 80% of is better than 100% of anyone else BS is so prevalent and players want to play regardless so I suspect he’ll be back by the end of the week even if it’s limited play.

On this team, saying “Johnson Out” merely narrows the possibilities to 3 players!

Or perhaps get one slapped or perhaps arrested ….

Was _really_ trying not to go there!
