Marlins Braves Series: Live Thread (Game 1)

Our goal is to have a live thread for as many, if not all games as we possibly can.  We realize all fans lead busy lives, and we do as well, but we also know that when you’re at home, watching the game in the comfort of your man (or lady) cave, sometimes you’re watching it all by your lonesome.  It’s good to have other like-minded fans to be able to discuss the game with, but sometimes other people just don’t get how important these games are!  Our live threads give you the chance to talk baseball, comment, rant, and rave about all things Braves!

Come on then, what are you waiting for?  All you have to do is grab your laptop, iPad, Tab, Note, or whatever else you use to satisfy your cravings for sports, and keep it nearby while watching the game.  When you see Julio Teheran deliver a slider down and away that baffles a hitter, and you wanna say, “Wow!” … you can do it, baby!  If you see Chris Johnson slap a single to the opposite field against the shift, and you wanna say, “Did you see that, dude!”…. you can do it!  Heck, even if you happen to be a Marlins fan, you can rant among all the raves!  We don’t discriminate.

To get started with your comments, just scroll down until you see the Comments section.  If you have a Disqus account for commenting, feel free to log in and use it to comment, but you don’t have to.  Anyone can comment with the Disqus system.  Stay tuned throughout the game and refresh the page often to see new comments.  Let’s have some fun talking about our Atlanta Braves!

If you have any trouble with commenting, have a question, or need help, feel free to shoot us a DM on Twitter.

Welcome fans, to our first LIve Threat in quite some time at Tomahawk Take. We realize it might take awhile to have fans start filtering in and commenting. Braves’ fans are such bashful types! Feel free to rant, rave, analyze, ostracize, etc. Just try and keep it reasonably clean please. Go Braves!

Waiting for the wiling and gnashing of teeth because Gattis or TJ isn’t playing left and EJ is. Also waiting on supper

    • cheadrick

haha I think if I were going to play EJ, and I would, he’d be at 2B where Dan is 1 for 6 since returning, and a mere .167, which is no real surprise.

    • http://tomahawktake.com/ Julien Benjamin

surprised that we aren’t seeing Terdoslavich today

      • cheadrick

You are surprised at things with the Braves still? ;-)

        • http://tomahawktake.com/ Julien Benjamin

          good point :D

      • fireboss

        Yea me too

  • cheadrick

Love to see Teheran out-pitch Fernandez tonight. Jose’ getting all the press as the phenom and possible ROY, but Teheran is no slouch.

    • fireboss

I would too but have you watched Fernandez? he’s a stud

      • cheadrick

Yeah I’ve seen him. He IS quite good, and the hype is well, not hype at all. He shut the Dodgers up and outpitched Kershaw didn’t he?

        • fireboss

He beat Ryu. 1.002 WHIP 2.30 era 1+k’s per inning, if he had a team behind him he’d have 20 wins. Big strikeout guy with great control

        • fireboss

Also fernandez apparently 2 K’s away fro the Marlin’s rookie record

  • cheadrick

I love football, don’t get me wrong, but it’s amazing to me how many so-called baseball fans, or Braves fans, abandon the game altogether when football starts

    • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Tell me about it – I live in Alabama. National (Football) signing day is treated like a National Holiday.

      • cheadrick

Well bro, I’m a huge Tide Fan, but nothing, and I mean no game! has the majesty, the history, and the sheer, cerebral joy of the greatest game in the world – Baseball! I live in Birmingham BTW ;)

  • cheadrick

    Eating some supper. BRB

  • fireboss

Well.. as a warm up the Bucs just let Shelby Miller know it might be a long night

  • Jeff Schafer

Wow live game thread!!! Braves baseball rules!!

    • fireboss

I hope you brought the beer

  • cheadrick

Patience braves. Make Jose throw alot, and maybe we can get him out and get to the bullpen. They are reportedly limiting Jose to maybe two more games. That said though, they might allow him throw 100+

    • fireboss

Has thrown around 100 every start maxed at 109 against the Dodgers two starts ago 97 against the rox so he’ll do that at least

      • cheadrick

Wish I had that kind of arm when I was pitching. Hope they are not over-doing it with him. Guess thus the limit of 2 more games. With the Fish no hopes for post season, no need to overthrow his arm.

  • fireboss
    • cheadrick

Typical Fredi explanation, but at least he did say often people forget Evan is a rookie. I haven’t forgotten that! :)

  • cheadrick

It’s the Chris and Fred Show. Who’s the straight man? (this day and age you have to explain I mean that as a Vaudevillian term)

    • fireboss

      jeff was here, he’s elected

  • fireboss

That would be Julio KK Tehran

  • fireboss

    Make that Julio K-K-K Teheran

  • cheadrick

I’ve seen Jose just once this season, but he must have great spot command. Not alot of movement so far on his FB. He clearly has some good junk

    • fireboss

Doesn’t travel well though as EJ just showed

  • fireboss

Bottom fell out of that hook

  • cheadrick

My, my… was that Elliot Johnson!? Was that the guy Fredi finally decided to play again? (sarcasm rife)

    • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

No – it couldn’t be: Uggla’s the better player.

      • cheadrick

        haha ;)

        • fireboss

Be careful Jesus is watching you

          • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

            Pretty sure he already knows.

          • cheadrick

I’ll slap him with a calculator! Was that sacrilegious?

          • fireboss

Not unless you hit him with the + sign

  • fireboss

our RBI Machine does it again

  • fireboss

Fast ball has no movement he’s using that hook awfully early

    • cheadrick

Not much on Julio’s either…. danger danger Will Robinson!

  • fireboss

Astros and Fish should play for the worst team trophy

  • fireboss

Van Gundy Shoveling down those fries like he hasn’t eaten for a month or he’s afraid Fredi’s gonna come steal them

    • cheadrick

Shame SVG aint coaching somewhere. Damn good coach.

      • fireboss

Honestly don’t know anything about basketball or football and don’t care. Love English Premier League Soccer when I lived there but the stuff we have here I ignore completely

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Allllmost got him at third. Fernandez is gonna be just as annoying a hitter as a pitcher over the years to come, eh?

    • cheadrick

Played those mexican leagues? They don’t save their hitters.

  • fireboss

Also should hit behind Stanton, 2nd best hitter in their team

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

New strategy: get Fernandez winded by making him run bases. 2-1 Atl, top 3rd. Runner 1st, none out.

  • cheadrick

    Jeff gitcho ^&^$ in here!

  • cheadrick

The Joe and Chip Mancrush on Giancarlo saga continues

  • cheadrick

Whew! Nice out on that Julio

  • cheadrick

I guess our staff pooped out :) It’s just 1/3 the way through the game bros!

    • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

      multi-tasking :D

    • fireboss

I’m here but wife came in and I had to explain something I explained yesterday

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ Julien Benjamin

Julio is averaging 21 pitches an inning, Fernandez just 14

    • cheadrick

Braves are not known for patience.

  • cheadrick

CJ’s defense showing marked improvement these days. I’m loving having him as a Brave.

  • fireboss

Freddie has his number tonight. I like Fernandez though looks a great kid

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

wow – wild play: Freddie taking third , Ramos’ fling, and the catch

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

was that the same guy getting the foul ball?

  • fireboss

Fernandez havin a ball out there loves the battle – I love his smile

    • cheadrick

Yeah it’s the players that just have fun, and remember it’s still a game that go far. This kid is special.

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ Julien Benjamin

    Great battle

    • fireboss

Having fun and battling hard. gotta love that

  • fireboss
    • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

      Both of them? Oh, wait….

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

pitch count climbing at least. dang good curveball.

    • fireboss

Yea and it isn;t at it’s best tonight. I watched him carve up the Indians. it was scary good

  • fireboss

McCann wore him out.. BJ walks

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

    Wow – BJ’s on base… they’re loaded… gotta make him pay, Simba.

    • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

out of inning. Still 2-1 after 4. And no – swinging early is NOT what I had in mind after seeing the last 2 ABs.

  • cheadrick

Well no visitors tonight, but we’ll keep it up. If we build it, they will eventually come!

  • fireboss

Mike Minor is one of those,

    • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

He was a Vandy guy. But I think there’s a Brave on that list.

      • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

        I think it’s Beachy — nope that’s wrong.

        • fireboss

          Nope Indiana Wesleyan University

          • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

            yeah – looked it up.

      • fireboss

DeRosa was but he’s AL now

  • cheadrick

Wow, dramatic pause there Danny boy

    • fireboss

Trying to remember what to do next

  • cheadrick

He best get a handle on his FB. Can’t sustain that kind of curve night in, night out. He expands his repertoire, and he’s even more dangerous.

    • fireboss

He has a little change he uses now and then that needs to be improved but frankly if he never throws a slider or cutter his arm will last a lot longer

      • cheadrick

Yeah, and truth is, it’s really a falacy to assume a pitcher has to have a good 4 pitch mix. If you have great control, a good FB and a curve can take you very far.

        • fireboss

A change is sort of needed too just because it’s a different look and gets the timing off

          • cheadrick

A good change is one of the hardest pitches to learn to do well. He’s clearly working on that.

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Simba can field his grounders AND Chris’s.

  • cheadrick

Can you say, Gold Glove and utter quietly to yourself, injustice if not… echo.. not not not no n

  • cheadrick

    ooo just late

  • cheadrick

If Puig played with the same child-like wonder, I’d be a fan of his too.

    • fireboss

Yea his “I just wasn’t into it” comment said a lot about him but I remember Bobby oulling a young wise ass outfielder off the filed. he turned out pretty well

      • cheadrick

hehe arguably the best if you’re talking who I think you’re talkin

        • fireboss

          Andruw was that

  • cheadrick

Im shocked twitter fans are giving Fernandez praise. They usually rag on good players that are not Braves, at least between raggin’ on actual Braves!

  • fireboss

Have a look at Darvish making Trevor Plouffe look really bad with a 61MOH hook http://imgur.com/60z2EYc

    • cheadrick

Plouffe there goes… another rubber tree….. wow how embarrassing for Trevor.

      • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

I see what you did there.

        • cheadrick

          haha

          • fireboss

That shows a knowledge of old songs and bad puns. essential for all ball players

That was curve nearly a Kershaw/Wainwright hook maybe better

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

    Mets beat Nats

    • cheadrick

And the magic number at the end of this game will be…..?

      • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

        15 if we win

      • fireboss

        15

      • cheadrick

        hahahaha What a Clontz

    • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

      Yeah – I think he’s trolling hard.
