According to a tweet from the Atlanta Journal Constitution’s, David O’Brien, Jason Heyward is doing a touch of light exercising finally.

David O’Brien (@ajcbraves) tweeted at 3:45 PM on Fri, Aug 30, 2013…

"Heyward was cleared at the doctor yesterday for some light exercising. Will do 30 mins on elliptical today."

I’m posting this a touch late because I missed it, and perhaps you did as well.  I knew Jason was back with the club, doing some interviews, etc., but had not heard he was doing any light exercises as of yet.  In any case, it’s good news for Jason Heyward and fans who hope (perhaps against good judgement) that Jason might be in some shape to be back on the field during the playoffs.

Jason has lost a few pounds, but by all reports is loading up on the protein shakes, and doing everything he can to stay healthy and read to go should he make it back.  I’ve said before, and will stick to my guns though ~ I cannot imagine that missing as many as six weeks, losing muscle mass, and just the mental fatigue of having to go through all this ~ will put Jason in any kind of shape to actually contribute in a real way should he be back in the lineup.  Hope I’m wrong about that, but only time will tell.

Certainly Jason’s presence in the lineup, and particularly at leadoff have been missed, but Jordan Schafer has stepped up and played very well in Jason’s absence.  As we’ve said before ~ our only hope is for Jason to get well, and be back to playing shape, with no lasting affects ~ even if that means we won’t see him until 2014.
