Marlins Braves Series: Live Thread (Game 2)

Welcome to our Live Game Thread for Game 2 of the Marlins / Braves Series.

Our goal is to have a live thread for as many, if not all games as we possibly can.  We realize all fans lead busy lives, and we do as well, but we also know that when you’re at home, watching the game in the comfort of your man (or lady) cave, sometimes you’re watching it all by your lonesome.  It’s good to have other like-minded fans to be able to discuss the game with, but sometimes other people just don’t get how important these games are!  Our live threads give you the chance to talk baseball, comment, rant, and rave about all things Braves!

Come on then, what are you waiting for?  All you have to do is grab your laptop, iPad, Tab, Note, or whatever else you use to satisfy your cravings for sports, and keep it nearby while watching the game.  When you see Mike Minor deliver a change up that baffles a hitter, and you wanna say, “Wow!” … you can do it, baby!  If you see Elliot Johnson slap slap a single to the opposite field against the shift, and you wanna say, “Man, he’s really steppin’ it up, dude!”…. you can do it!  Heck, even if you happen to be a Marlins fan, you can rant among all the raves!  We don’t discriminate.

To get started with your comments, just scroll down until you see the Comments section.  If you have a Disqus account for commenting, feel free to log in and use it to comment, but you don’t have to.  Anyone can comment with the Disqus system.  Stay tuned throughout the game and refresh the page often to see new comments.  Let’s have some fun talking about our Atlanta Braves!

If you have any trouble with commenting, have a question, or need help, feel free to shoot us a DM on Twitter.

  • cheadrick

Per David O’Brien, “#Braves Kimbrel wearing a Bama football jersey in clubhouse”. I didn’t think I could respect him more! I know this is a live thread for the Braves, but excuse me if I say, Roll Tide on this first day of a possible three-peat season!

    • Benjamin Chase

I once held you in esteem…

      • cheadrick

        LOL

  • fireboss

Well that’s certainly not the start we needed withour offense stuck in the 2 runs a game mode

    • cheadrick

I concur. I heard the yell from outside my window. Had to go out and cover my hog. Alabama flash lighting storm outta nowhere.

      • fireboss

I’ve been removing wall paper.. I hate wallpaper- actually pulled an obique doing it today .. proves i;m old and out of shape

  • Jeff Schafer

Football?? What’s that? Ha, it’s almost September baseball. Lets go braves!

    • cheadrick

Yeah all these so-called Braves fans that tuck tail and run when football starts. Just weird to ignore the greatest game in the world. Don’t get me wrong, I love football, it don’t hold a candle.

  • fireboss

    Lovely slide Jordan Schafer

  • cheadrick

    Got 1 back!

  • Benjamin Chase

    Small ball…gotta love it!

    • Lee Trocinski

Yay, negative WPA plays… Playing for one run in the 1st is not a good idea.

  • cheadrick

Never had a mancrush CJ… uhm

  • Benjamin Chase

The Marlins have some solid young arms. Turner was a monster before Detroit rushed him, similar to Porcello. He’s been much better upon his return to the majors this year.

    • cheadrick

Yeah if the Fish had any offense, and had had this rotation all year….

    • fireboss

rushing young pitchers usually not a good idea

      • cheadrick

        ala Wood

        • fireboss

Ala bonderman porcello turner and a long long list.

  • cheadrick

We have our first visitor on new live threads… although Lee isn’t really a visitor. LOL

  • fireboss

LoMo sure gets beat up.. That knee is going to blow up like a balloon.. I see Fredi ordering Papa John’s

    • cheadrick

When they stop ordering the doctored hash browns? They gotta get back on them greasy wonders!

  • cheadrick

    I’m bettah at telling jokes

  • fireboss

Well at least there was contact from Dan

  • fireboss

Fish rotation next year will be scary

  • Lee Trocinski

Seriously, how did B.J. go from decent to worthless so fast? Can’t make contact, and when he does, it’s not good.

    • fireboss

Just MHO but he’s not a great hitter anyway and the contract plus the league and then his brother’s early success got in his head. He started fiddling with things and hasn’t returned to what he did to make him sort of successful

      • cheadrick

He’s just a mental basket case. See Smoltzies psychologist!

        • fireboss

He’s in need of it but my observation indicates his pride will not let him do it

    • Lee Trocinski

I do see that his in-zone contact rate dropped to a career-low last year, and that’s one of the major signs of fast decline.

      • fireboss

His bat speed looks okay but there are so many moving parts it’s hard to pull it together. He’s young for a cliff drop but it could happen

  • fireboss

I’ve never had the urge to paint a letter on my chest then go to the ballpark and take off my shirt. Mayeb I don;t drink enough

    • cheadrick

I’ve done it at home with the wifey before

      • fireboss

        TMI Chris :)

  • cheadrick

    Leiter I believe

    • fireboss

That was my first thought. Then I thought maybe Livan i dunno

    • Lee Trocinski

      What’s the trivia question?

      • cheadrick

1st no hitter in Marlins history I think it was.

        • Lee Trocinski

Yeah, beat Kevin Brown by a year.

          • cheadrick

Wasn’t Anibal the last one to do it?

          • Lee Trocinski

Yup, and Burnett has the other one.

  • cheadrick

Is it rainy at the TED? Looking dank on TV

    • fireboss

They just said it was a funny sky, dark over the field but clear around it

      • cheadrick

Yeah looks like that weird tornado sky

  • cheadrick

Ben, Jeff, Julien, Gui? C’mon guys! lol

  • fireboss

Ah I c home run minor is here to night

  • fireboss

    EJ with a nice play

    • cheadrick

He’s a breath of fresh air with his glove

  • cheadrick

Mike goes yard on Mike (Still cannot call him Giancarlo)

    • fireboss

As big as he is I’ll call him whatever he wants me to.

      • cheadrick

Yeah he don’t look big, but I saw them comment on his size while standing next to Freddie – he’s big.

        • fireboss

          He’s a beast

        • Lee Trocinski

He’s the biggest skinny guy ever.

          • cheadrick

Yeah looks like he coulda played basketball

          • fireboss

            6’6 240…
Reminds m of an old song ‘ Every mornin at the mine you could see him arrive he stood 6’6 and weighed 245 broad at the should and narrow at the hip everybody know you didn’t give to lip to big john….

            I’m officially dirt old

          • Lee Trocinski

Without that song, we wouldn’t have Jimmy Dean sausages. I know plenty of songs from that era.

          • fireboss

I watched him sing it live on the Hit Parade every week. My dad never missed that show…

  • cheadrick

Fish couldn’t crawl out of the basement with a ladder and a come-a-long, but they always get up under the Braves’ skin

  • fireboss

    Baseball just screamed in pain

    • cheadrick

Yeah Dan has no pain receptacles like a normal person.

  • cheadrick

Hope Gattis’ bat does wake up in AAA. He’s a great off the bench pinch hitter option. That’s as far as I’ll go :)

    • fireboss

I’m not sure about this what can he get , 8 abs before returning Tuesday?

      • cheadrick

Well they play tonight, tommorrow and do they play Monday? 8 yeah unless they play Monday. I know the season ends Monday but not sure offhand if they play Monday

        • cheadrick

Even if it’s 12, that’s not enough at-bats. He could likely get as much timing down in the cage.

  • cheadrick

We just started these live threads. Going to take awhile to build an audience. Have to stick with it even when few if any come. Will pay off. I keep sounding like an ad salesman

    • Benjamin Chase

I wish the overall system was better at immediately showing new posts, etc. If live is a focus, then the system should do better to support such.

  • fireboss

Pirates beating up on the Cards this week..Love it

    • cheadrick

      Owe me a coke

      • fireboss

About to go to dinner, come on over and I’ll buy

  • cheadrick

Pitt kicking Cards ass… something we did once btw.

  • fireboss

OH Dear Look what I found Mom!

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Dang… if Turner is left-handed, he never has a shot.

    • cheadrick

If he’s left handed, Simmons reaches on a downed pitcher

      • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Well at least Minor got the memo: hits it to the other side and singles!

  • fireboss

Someone say Polo so the kid will shut up

    • cheadrick

Yea and we aint even playing the Pirates, thank God

  • cheadrick

    Welcome Alan, btw :)

    • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

      Hiya! Dinner’s over.

  • fireboss

    Slipssseeeeeezzzz

  • cheadrick

That speed leads to that intangible… nervous pitcher hurries

  • fireboss

That was Morsrisons fault stretched too soon

    • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

In his defense, it’s hard to judge that lollipop toss (it wasn’t a ‘throw’, for sure).

      • fireboss

He threw – flipped – that pretty hard more submarine

  • cheadrick

We don’t catch a run outta this, I’m going to, well I’ll keep watching and just be mad, but ….

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

My son thinks Elliot looks like Redmond. He could be on to something.

    • fireboss

      looks like David Spade

    • cheadrick

Check out this gem I found… lol

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

    Thanks for the ball1 call.

    • Lee Trocinski

Then he swings and misses at the exact same pitch, not that it wasn’t very hittable.

      • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

…followed by a well-located high one… and now they’re out of the inning. Dang. New strategy for the opposition: get the bases loaded, then get your outs.

  • fireboss

    missed that one

  • fireboss

Oh, it’s those Braves tonight is it?

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

81 pitches through 6 for Minor… that’ll do, but no offense so far. 1-3 Marlins, mid 6th.

  • cheadrick

Mets are pounding on the Nats 8-0 after 5.

  • fireboss

Well folks My son’s birthday was Thursday (38) and we always do dinner so I’ll be a lot broker in an hour or so. Score some damn runs for us will ya

    • cheadrick

Decent food, and all you can eat…. Golden Corral ;)

      • fireboss

Lytle land and cattle company a lot more costly but much better food

  • Lee Trocinski

Remind me how ATL has the best record in the majors…

    • cheadrick

NL East playing collectively like triple A?

  • cheadrick

    Think BJ heard us Lee

  • cheadrick

    Perty swing

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Well lookie there… somebody just ran into one!

  • cheadrick

Think Simmons strained a nut on that swing

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Simmons almost had the most ridiculous looking homer swing I’ve ever seen.
