Marlins Braves Series: Live Thread (Game 3)

Welcome to our Live Game Thread for Game 3 of the Marlins / Braves Series.  This is the series wrap tonight, so enjoy!  The Braves go for the Sweep!!!

We realize all fans lead busy lives, and we do as well, but we also know that when you’re at home, watching the game in the comfort of your man (or lady) cave, sometimes you’re watching it all by your lonesome.  It’s good to have other like-minded fans to be able to discuss the game with, but sometimes other people just don’t get how important these games are!  Our live threads give you the chance to talk baseball, comment, rant, and rave about all things Braves!

Come on then, what are you waiting for?  All you have to do is grab your laptop, iPad, Tab, Note, or whatever else you use to satisfy your cravings for sports, and keep it nearby while watching the game.  When you see Alex Wood pitch like he’s a seasoned veteran, and you wanna say, “Wow! This kid is good!” … you can do it, baby!  If you see B.J. Upton shock the lights out of everyone by actually getting some hits, and you wanna say, “It’s all BABIP man!”…. you can do it!  Heck, even if you happen to be a Marlins fan, you can rant among all the raves!  We don’t discriminate.  Heck!  We even love and accept the SABR guys! ;-)

To get started with your comments, just scroll down until you see the Comments section.  If you have a Disqus account for commenting, feel free to log in and use it to comment, but you don’t have to.  Anyone can comment with the Disqus system.  Stay tuned throughout the game and refresh the page often to see new comments.  Let’s have some fun talking about our Atlanta Braves!

If you have any trouble with commenting, have a question, or need help, feel free to shoot us a DM on Twitter.

  • fireboss

I have my broom and my barf bucket, Freddy Garcia I’m sure Freddy is a great guy but why not say Joe Beimel, Cory Gearrin or even Flande?

  • cheadrick

BRB… bathroom run… but yeah, he was supposed to really just be shoring up the minors and called only if really needed, I thought

  • cheadrick

Think I just passed a small, woodland creature.

    • fireboss

ore roughage old son and less squirrels

  • cheadrick

Andrelton just a natural. You can know that trick in theory, but having the mindset in the moment to do it is an intangible you can’t teach.

    • fireboss

some of that is just instinct and seeing someone getting the ball

  • cheadrick

Amazing to me we got staffers tweeting, but not joining the live thread. No names mentioned here, but you know who you are.

  • cheadrick

I think fangraphs has Simmons WAR above any other Brave. His glove is most of that, but he’s hitting too.

  • fireboss

    Simba a triple threat? :)

  • cheadrick

After 1. Got a notion the Braves will smoke Nate tonight.

    • fireboss

Yea he’s a slob lets help the Fish out and take him off their hands..

      • cheadrick

Oh, and that’s not a Jordan Schafer pun either.. smoke the nate

  • cheadrick

Did we spank Lee so much he won’t return? ;-)

    • fireboss

Nah he’ll be back. He doesn;t give up trying to enlighten me. I appreciate his dedication and I do learn things, He’s tough he’ll be back :)

  • fireboss

Ya know Woody’s not had an ass whippin yet.. this is the kind of stupid thing that happens

    • cheadrick

      He’s hanging his pitches

      • cheadrick

I’ve been concerned for awhile now the Braves are over using his young arm.

        • fireboss

An early blowout could lead to a Freddy Garcia sighting – wash my mouth out with pine tar

          • cheadrick

            YOu are a prophet

  • cheadrick

    Harvey shoulda slowed it down

    • fireboss

Nah cutter slider did that to his arm not a FB. Too many too young for a body not finished growing

      • cheadrick

        Merely being ironical

  • fireboss

    That was smoked

  • cheadrick

No one has a delivery quite like Wood, but I think Eovaldi comes the closest. He has that same hang on the backside of his windup

    • fireboss

      Ubaldo Jiminez looks like Woody

  • cheadrick

Maybe it’s just me, but I think Justin kinda gave up on that ball. Probably couldn’t have gotten there, but he approached at a mere trot.

  • fireboss

    Leaving too many pitches up

    • cheadrick

Yeah he’s no attacking the corners like usual

  • cheadrick

Jeff’s at the game tonight. His view tweeted from his seats in the OF.

    • fireboss

he needs to go get a Waffle House special and hope it changes things

  • cheadrick

We’ll keep pluggin, they will come. My friend was going to join, and texted me his power is out so he and the wifey went out to eat til its back on.

    • fireboss

I misread that last part and thought well at least he’s having fun

      • cheadrick

        LOL

  • fireboss

    Woody got nothin today

  • cheadrick

Pitch wasn’t too bad… little over the plate, but he stayed with it and the drop for the hit. Sheesh Wood!

    • fireboss

too much up too much over the plate equals early shower

  • fireboss

Gawd I hate myself for knowing this would happen

    • cheadrick

Yeah you could kinda smell it in his last outing with those 4 walks, doubling his previous high total.

  • fireboss

    Well, shucks

  • cheadrick

Need that rest for long relief, but oh well. Need those quality starts.

  • fireboss

Woody finding out that major league innings are harder than any other innings

  • cheadrick

Yeah but you know twits are raggin on him, and fact is, he’s been good up until his last two outings. Tired?

    • fireboss

      yep tired

  • fireboss

    Infield in.. really

  • cheadrick

Almost like Fredi knew Wood was tired… purchasing Garcia’s contract when he did…. dramatic music….

    • fireboss

Fredi purchases burritos but the bullpen has been showing wear and tear and needed a guy who could take an ass whipping

  • cheadrick

    Man Julien really loves Woody.

    • fireboss

Yea high expectations are fine but realistic is better. 3 starter unless something changes

      • cheadrick

Im a bit of a purist. Always had issues with his mechanics, think that alone keeps him long term from reaching #1 or #2 type.

        • fireboss

His stuff is just good not great. FB not really big, breaking ball is good, change – eh okay. Will win if he paints the zone and pitches ahead but doesn’t have the pure stuff to maker mistakes in the zine and get away with it

          • cheadrick

Yeah if his spot command on the corners is on, he’s been tough, but he’s not consistent with it.

    • http://tomahawktake.com/ Julien Benjamin

just a rough day lol. Control was a bit off, had some weak bloops…. due to have a rough day at some point, right?

      • fireboss

Looked really tired, But as you say everyone has one and this was his we hope for the season + post

      • cheadrick

Yeah, I saw everyone roughing him up on Twitter. He will bounce back man. I loved your passion defending him.

  • fireboss

So Halladay an off season target.

    • cheadrick

Keep him I say. Getting old, and I think he plays injured alot.

      • fireboss

I think he’ll be good next year and relatively inexpensive A good model for Beachy and Wood. I really don;t expect Tim back early and Maholm can go home AFAIC

        • cheadrick

Imagine if we got the Freak and Roy in the OS.

          • fireboss

We won’t be able to afford Timmy but Roy may be doable

          • cheadrick

            Thus the word, “imagine” ;)

          • fireboss

Ah I C said the blind man as he picked up his hammer and saw

  • Matthew Jones

Bee-yootiful double play. Wouldn’t it be hilarious if we actually came back and won this game?

    • fireboss

I love Janish’s glove I wish he could hit his weight

      • cheadrick

        Same with EJ

    • cheadrick

Matthew! Welcome aboard. A comebacker would be …. well, we’re used to it by now. :)

  • cheadrick

Chip the Fish haven’t faced pitching this sloppy in a long time!

    • fireboss

Ignore Chip he’s in his own little world

  • cheadrick

Is Freddy as high as Jerry? Fred, you might get that joke.

    • fireboss

Nah he just looks that way all the time

  • cheadrick

When men starting talking fashion, colors, hairstyles, etc. I just smh. We are becoming such a metrosexual society.. men don’t know how to be men anymore. Did Joe just use the word, “Garish”?

    • fireboss

That’s just blowout talk. They have no war stories about playing days to throw in and Chip can’t adlib breakfast. Yea Joe at a thesaurus

  • cheadrick

CJ tutored Justin pre-game on how to do the inside-out swing ;) hehe

  • fireboss

that oughta be illegal. 98 heat 86 slide piece

    • cheadrick

Unhittable at least, if not illegal

      • Matthew Jones

Dang, Uggla. Question: why didn’t Johnson play at 2b today?

        • fireboss

Fredi wants dan to find his stroke… should look in the latrine I’m thinking

          • cheadrick

            hahahaha

        • cheadrick

I been asking that since Dan came back up off AAA stint. In fairness to Fredi, you kinda had to give him another try. He’s been good late in most seasons, but after a few games and no signs of an upsurge, I would jsut bench him and put EJ back at 2nd. That’s just me.

  • cheadrick

I don’t get play by plays on Twitter. Aren’t people actually watching the game? heh

    • fireboss

some aren’t and that’s how they stay up with it

      • cheadrick

You have a smart phone, and you can have AtBat, and any number of other play by play, box score, pitch by pitch apps, and you use Twitter for that? Wow. Just, wow. hehe

        • fireboss

some workplaces allow a twitter feed but not an MLB feed or so I’m told

  • fireboss

And Simmons showed Dan how to hit popups

    • cheadrick

He was already pretty good at it lol

  • fireboss

That’s been a strike all day and Mathis knows it

  • fireboss

Leave Garcia out there. What can it hurt really?

    • cheadrick

Yeah, work him. See what he has in him if you’re gonna bring him up!

      • fireboss

        well i’ll be.. they did

  • cheadrick

    CJ, reborn, 2.5

  • fireboss

    Weight room Simba

  • cheadrick

I could eat the north end out of a south bound mule. Hawngry!

  • fireboss

    EJ Sighting

  • cheadrick

How about resting Uggla and let EJ play 2nd? Just asking… I know Andy needs the rest more, but still….

    • fireboss

      Uggs rested at Gwinnett

      • cheadrick

Uggs has hustled, and yet rested, well, all year!

  • fireboss

amateur umpire day with Laz Diaz… that works.. sponsored by LensCrafters

  • cheadrick

Must….. find….. food (Best Captain Kirk voice)

    • fireboss

meatloaf was good, baked sweet potato and salad

      • cheadrick

Oh, shut up! ;) I could eat a meatloaf, baked sweet potato, and salad sandwich, with sardines, or sour rye bread right now

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ Julien Benjamin

    Uggla…. sigh

    • cheadrick

But Julien, according to Jesus, he’s too good to stay out of the lineup lol

  • cheadrick

Well I gotta get out of my chair, put on some pants, and go get something to eat. Ignore the imagery.

    • fireboss

too late.. and who cleans the chair .. I want to send a sympathy card

      • cheadrick

It’s in my man cave, and touching it is, well, anathema.

        • fireboss

Ah spray Lysol from a distance.. I getcha

  • cheadrick

    Joe, you suck. Roll Tide!

  • cheadrick

Back soon if I can refrain from stuffing my pie hole before the game’s over. Go Bravos!
