Mets Braves Preview and Live Thread (Game 1)

Welcome to our Mets @ Braves Preview, and Live Game Threads

The New York Mets (62-73) will be in Atlanta at Turner Field this afternoon to begin a three-game series against the NL East leading Atlanta Braves (83-53), and we’ll be doing another Live Game Thread for the series.

LHP Paul Maholm (9-10, 4.37) will take the mound against the Mets and RHP Daisuke Matsuzaka (0-2, 8.68) in game 1, and Paul Maholm will hope to continue to improve upon his last outing, where Paul limited the Cleveland Indians to just one run over six innings pitched.

Maholm suffered a wrist contusion and was on the DL for more than a month.  He returned to the rotation against the St. Louis Cardinals on August 22nd, and had a rough return, allowing five runs in just under six innings.  He’s improved though, and will hope to have another strong outing against the Mets.

In contrast to Maholm’s improvements since returning to the lineup, Daisuke Matsuzaka has been uncharacteristically bad since joining the Mets on August 22, allowing nine runs and 12 hits in two starts.  In his last start against the Philadelphia Phillies, Daisuke gave up four runs and six hits in just over four innings in that loss.

Probables

Monday:  Mets RHP Daisuke Matsuzaka (0-2, 8.68) vs. Braves LHP Paul Maholm (9-10, 4.37), 1:10 p.m. ET

Tuesday Mets RHP Carlos Torres (3-2, 2.77) vs. Braves RHP Kris Medlen (11-12, 3.58), 7:10 p.m. ET

Wednesday:  RHP Dillon Gee (10-9, 3.63) vs. Braves RHP Julio Teheran (11-7, 3.01), 12:10 p.m. ET

Live Game Threads

We realize all fans lead busy lives, and we do as well, but we also know that when you’re at home, watching the game in the comfort of your man (or lady) cave, sometimes you’re watching it all by your lonesome.  It’s good to have other like-minded fans to be able to discuss the game with, but sometimes other people just don’t get how important these games are!  Our live threads give you the chance to talk baseball, comment, rant, and rave about all things Braves!

Come on then, what are you waiting for?  All you have to do is grab your laptop, iPad, Tab, Note, or whatever else you use to satisfy your cravings for sports, and keep it nearby while watching the game.  When you see Paul Maholm back out and back to form, and you wanna say, “Why did I ever doubt this veteran!” … you can do it, baby!  If you see Chris Johnson back in his regular spot at 3B, picking up right where he left off, and you wanna say, “BABIP my butt!”…. you can do it!  Heck, even if you happen to be a Mets fan, you can rant among all the raves!  We don’t discriminate.  Heck!  We even love and accept the SABR guys! ;-)

To get started with your comments, just scroll down until you see the Comments section.  If you have a Disqus account for commenting, feel free to log in and use it to comment, but you don’t have to.  Anyone can comment with the Disqus system.  Stay tuned throughout the game and refresh the page often to see new comments.  Let’s have some fun talking about our Atlanta Braves!

If you have any trouble with commenting, have a question, or need help, feel free to shoot us a DM on Twitter.

I’ve always heard you cannot wear white after Labor Day. That is the strangest thing I ever heard, I ignore it, but wonder – is this the last we’ll see the Braves in white? ;-) hehe

    • Glen Morrow

Yes Braves have to wear Blue and Red the rest of the year.

    • fireboss

Braves are no fashion conscious thankfully

  • cheadrick

Someone take that cheerleader behind the bleachers!

    • fireboss

she had her group clapping so they should go too

  • fireboss

Liked BMAC going to left with that

  • fireboss

    CJ 2.5 3-3

  • fireboss

Mets Bullpen Buffet open for business, everybody gets a double and an RBI BJ SHOULD hit this guy it’s a lot like batting practice

    • cheadrick

Agreed. My mother could hit that, and she’s passed.

  • cheadrick

Beej appears to be waking up… with the bat anyway

  • Glen Morrow

Braves are hitting good …Uh Oh !!!! here comes Dan . Well it was good

  • fireboss

we’re up 10 -3 Dan take the rest of the day off PLEASE

  • fireboss

Chip just explained why Dan will never get a hit again.. who explained it to him?

    • cheadrick

      Chip actually explained something?

      • fireboss

after watching all year he figured out that unless they pitched Dan middle in Dan wouldn’t get a hit

        • cheadrick

He probably read Tomahawk Take finally hehe, or maybe Gretchen clued him

  • cheadrick

    How was that charged?

    • fireboss

      Hit I think

      • cheadrick

hrmm… know he had to go a ways, but seemed imminently catchable to me

        • cheadrick

Probably wouldn’t have gotten the out anyway with how far he had to range.

          • fireboss

            Not with EY running

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ Julien Benjamin

Uggla is the only hitless Braves….. that’s sad. I miss Pastornicky

    • cheadrick

I miss EJ. Oh wait, he’s just a few feet away, strangely on the bench.

  • fireboss

    EJ gets that too

  • cheadrick

Have to agree I’m afraid on charging that last miss by Simba as an error. One up the middle I mean on the EY bat

    • fireboss

who was he going to throw out? Moving towards third slowly hit ball.

      • cheadrick

No, I mean the one up the middle early, hit by EY. Just looked like an error to me

        • fireboss

I doubt he gets EY even if he gloves it. Ey is very quick

  • cheadrick

BRB guys. I gotta run out the door. Back in a bit. Hold down the fort.

  • fireboss

Hope that’s just a back spasm and not a muscle strain we’re out of leadoff men

  • fireboss

We could really do going a game against the Mets without injuring someone. Huddy, Jason and now Schafer

    • cheadrick

      What did I miss?

      • fireboss

Schafer left looked like an upper back muscle strain. He did it on his first swing but stayed in singled to left then exited for EJ to run for him

        • cheadrick

Man I hope that’s all it is…. wait, Chip said lower back strain. That can be no real issue that a hottub and a few days rest fixes, or that can be a nagging injury that affects his September

          • fireboss

I know they said lower but he grabbed up between the shoulder blades. in any case hot tub works well and I suspect he’s working on it already

  • fireboss

AArdsma can’t find the plate he’s about to hang one for Uggs

    • cheadrick

Uggs dirty… did he walk or actually get a hit before this one?

      • fireboss

        walked

  • fireboss

well it wasn’t a big bang but he put it in play

  • cheadrick

Chip what world you live in man? You think fans care if the Mets are tired from a long and late flight? haha. We take every advantage.

    • fireboss

he’s made that point before about us and I actually agree. Heck I;d start it at 5 eastern if I was in charge.

      • cheadrick

I agree with MLB doing a better job with scheduling, but not about fans being short-changed, at least Atlanta fans. Mets fans might boo-hoo, but it all evens out.

  • cheadrick

Takes Jordan leaving to get EJ in the game.. never mind an error from Dan, and a hit on a fielders choice.

    • fireboss

      well, there you have it

  • cheadrick

After this series, get a day off, then the Phillies on the road, and a 4 game set against those pesky Fish again. grrr

    • fireboss

The fish rotation is scary. Good thing they can;t score

      • cheadrick

Tell me about it. If they had not unloaded so much talent, or they can manage to pick up some talent in the offseason, they’ll be better next year. That rotation got healthy late.

        • fireboss

Their infield corners aren’t good and the catching is just fair but their outfield and SS look like being solid enough.

  • fireboss

Okay now I have to take the sander I bought before the game back because it’s missing the dust bag. Oh well this room will never get painted

    • cheadrick

Good luck. it is LABOR day ;)

  • cheadrick

Good win. Pirates won, but Dodgers are down early 3-1 top 2.

  • cheadrick

Good Live Thread All! If you missed it, shame on you! Join us tomorrow for another live thread.

    • Matthew Jones

Well, it’s darn hard to do it from the stands. :D Btw, I’ll be back on the 13th over in the 2nd deck of RF. I’ll put my actual place when we get closer. It’d be fun to see some folks from this!
