I just try to keep it simple, just execute the pitch.”Smith struck out 10 in seven innings to earn his first major league victory,Chase Headley and Tommy Medica homered, and the San Diego Padresbeat the Atlanta Braves 4-0 Sunday. The Braves lead the NL East by 10 games over Washington. We’ll play tomorrow.”"
McNair Academy staffers honored on field by Atlanta Braves
"Several staff members from the McNair Academy in Decatur were honored Sunday afternoon by the Atlanta Braves for their role in helping prevent tragedy at the charter school last month.Principal Brian Bolden and his staffers helped escort hundreds of children to safety after a gunman broke in and began firing off rounds on Aug. 20. DeKalb police said Michael Brandon Hill was eventually arrested peacefully and charged in the incident, but only after heroic efforts from several of the school staff members helped every child get out unharmed.Sunday, the Braves invited those school staffers onto the field before the game to be recognized for their efforts.“I’ll remember these moments for the rest of my life, and so will all my other staff and students and parents that are here as well. Just phenomenal,” said Bolden. The Braves also invited all McNair Academy students to the game, handing out hundreds of free tickets."
