Yesterday it was announced that Andrelton Simmons had received the 2013 Fielding Bible Award for the shortstop position.  This award is presented by a specific group of analysis who judge players based on who they believe is the top fielder at the given position.  The panel is made up of Bill James, Brian Kenny, Dave Cameron, Doug Glanville, Hal Richman, Mark Simon, Rob Neyer, Peter Gammons, Joe Posnanski, Tom Tango, Joe Posnanski and John Dewan.

These analysts look at the 2013 seasons of every defensive player in MLB and then use the same voting technique as the MLB MVP voting.  First place votes received 10 points, second place 9 points, third place 8 points, etc.  A perfect score for this award would be 120 (12 analysts give their point system and then combined the totals).

Tonight (Tuesday) they will unveil the Gold Glove Award winners during a one-hour, ESPN2 “Baseball Tonight” special at 8 p.m. Eastern.  All nine players from the list above were named Gold Glove finalists at their respective positions. With Simmons receiving the perfect score, we can only think that a Gold Glove presentation for the young shortstop is right around the corner.
