The 2013 Gold Glove recipient, Andrelton Simmons gets rewarded with another statue on Friday night – this time it’s the 2013 Rawlings Platinum Glove Award.
This award began in 2011 and is given to just one player in each league regardless of position. In previous years two players have dominated the presentation – Yadier Molina and Adrian Beltre. Simmons was joined by Baltimore Orioles third baseman Manny Machado.
In 2013, Andrelton had 41 defensive runs saved…breaking the previous major league record.
Machado and Simmons won this award over Molina and Atlanta Braves favorite Milwaukee Brewers center fielder Carols Gomez. Simmons won this award with only a 0.5 percent of the total votes against Gomez….but a wins a win.
