Thursday

Licey defeated Aguilas 7-1

Licey started early and didn’t pick up the gas pedal throughout this game.  Erick Aybar would single and then score when Jamie Romak singled in the 1st inning.  Then score again in the bottom of the 2nd inning making the game 2-0.

Francisco Pena woud double in the top of the 3rd inning and later in the inning Rafael Ynoa would hit a sac fly to center scoring Pena to give Aguilas some life.

In the bottom of the 5th inning, Juan Francisco would double in Emilio Bonifacio and Eugenio Velez.  Score now 4-1.

In the 7th inning, Licey would continue the hurt as they would score three more runs making the score now 7-1.

Licey is now 3-2, Aguilas 2-3.

Escogido defeated Gigantes 4-1

Pedro Ciriaco was the star of the night for Escogido as he went 3-5 with two doubles and three RBIs.  Jose Constanza was Escogido’s DH for the nght and he went 1-4 with a run scored.

Seven batters of the starting lineup for Escogido had at least one hit.

Escogido is now 3-2 while Gigantes is 2-3.

Friday

Aguilas defeated Gigantes 3-2

Gigantes got on the board first in the bottom of the 4th inning when Francisco Peguero tripled to start off the inning.  The next batter, Josh Whitesell, drove in Peguero.

Down 1-0 in the top of the 5th inning, Terdoslavich singled on a ground ball to left field.  Andy Marte walked and then Alex Valdez had a sacrifice bunt to move Joey to third.  Francisco Pena had a ground out fielders choice which scored Terdo.  Score of the game leaving the 5th inning is 1-1.

Gigantes would tack on another run in the bottom of the 6th inning, score now 2-1.

With two outs in the top of the 8th inning, Juan Perez doubles on a line drive to left field.  Then Ricardo Nanita singles on a bloop hit in between the shortstop, third basemen and left fielder scoring Perez to tie the game.  Zoilo Almonte would later single in Nanita to take the lead 3-2.

Marcos Mateo would come in for Aguilas to pick up the save in the 9th inning.  This was his second save during the playoffs.

Aguilas will play Gigantes again on Saturday night.  Aguilas is now 3-3 in the round robin while Gigantes falls to 2-4.

Escogido defeated Licey 4-3

Juan Francisco started the game off with a bang, with his third home run of the playoffs, Francisco drove in Erick Aybar putting Licey up 2-0.

Escogido would score one run in the 4th inning and then three in the bottom of the 6th inning.  Starling Marte had a three run home run to put Escogido up 4-2.

Licey would add a run in the 8th inning but wasn’t enough as they fall 4-3.

Now 4-2, Escogido takes on Licey, 3-3, again on Saturday.

Venezuela League

Friday

Zulia defeated Magallanes 2-0

Zulia’s Ernesto Mejia started at first base, batted fifth in the lineup and went 0-3 with a walk and a run scored.

Sandy Leon doubled to lead off the bottom of the 2nd inning for Zulia and later scored when Luis Ugueto hit a fielders choice.

In the 4th inning, Mejia would lead off with a walk.  Then J.C Linares would double moving Mejia to thrid.  Ugueto hit a sac fly to left field scoring the speedy (Ha) Mejia who is 6’5″ 245 pounds.

Zulia, 1-0, takes on Magallanes, 1-1, again on Saturday in the Venezuela round robin.

Caracas, 0-1, takes on La Guaira, 0-2, on Saturday.

Caribes, the other team in the five team round robin is 2-0.
