Atlanta Braves: The Boys Are Back

The month long stay in the sunshine state is over as the Atlanta Braves head back to the ATL for the start of the 2014 regular season.  The Boys Are Back!!!

Spring Training concluded on Thursday afternoon with the Braves having a 12-18 record.  Yes, this was 3rd worse in the NL only in front of the L.A. Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies.  The Braves have Friday off then will play in the Futures game on Saturday at 2:05pm, Sunday off and then Monday begins the 162 game season.

Bright spots?

Absolutely we saw some bright spots.  Freddie Freeman had a .368 batting average with four doubles, two home runs and nine RBIs.  Jason Heyward hit .323 with four home runs, a triple and two doubles.  Alex Wood and Julio Teheran pitching like Aces.  Dan Uggla hit .269 and B.J. Upton had a .267 batting average!!!

Ugly points?

Well, yes.  Injuries to Kris Medlen and Brandon Beachy stung a little during Spring Training.  The bizarre release of Freddy Garcia.  Craig Kimbrel having a 3.86 ERA (don’t be scared, he’ll be alright).

So take all those stats and toss them in the trash because they do NOT matter anymore.  The guys who did well get to continue with confidence while the guys who struggled in the spring  get a clean slate.

Our own, Alan Carpenter, summed it up Thursday afternoon with all of our predictions for the season, look for the Atlanta Braves to be in the thick of things come the later months of the season.

Whether you like it or not, The Boys Are Back!!
