The Braves are banking better “stuff” from Harang, and today is the first test in this experiment. Harang is slated to be the Braves 3rd starter to open the season.

3-1 to Kinsler. Falling behind again. Fly to RF line. “Doumit turned it into an adventure” but got it.
    3 up, 3 down. End of 3. 1-1.

  • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

I need a new recliner, preferably a soft, plush, leather one that is heated and vibrates. My bones are OLD

    • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

How ’bout a large cat? That takes care of 2 of the three requirements.

      • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

hehe it would have to be very large, and large enough that my dogs wouldn’t eat it whole.

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

    4th inning:
2-2 to Doumit after whacking one off his foot.
Apparently Scherzer hitting 94 occasionally on the gun.
Liner to RF near the track. One out.

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Uggla fly out to Jackson. 2 out.

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Gattis misses 1st pitch. Strike two called. Check swing, ball. Whiff – a slider, I guess. 3 Outs.

    • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Little worried about Gattis. Not hitting very well.

      • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

        I’ve been worried. Hype

        • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Well, it wasn’t like I expect him to hit .300 either… but I hoped for .250-260

          • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

My thing has been that we cannot really know what he’ll do in a full season, playing every day. His story elevates him, not any real data. But I’m like you… he seems to have the talent to his 20 or so homers, or more, and should hit 250ish at a minimum. That said, he could also hit alot more or alot less. Jurys out for me.

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Miggy / VMart / THunter due up.

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

    Adam Kilgore @AdamKilgoreWP 19m
Not Bryce Harper’s finest hour. Trotted to first on a ball off the wall for a single. Then he got picked off, 1-6.

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Miggy grounded out to third. 2-2 to VM.

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Single to left. third hit by Detroit.

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Okay, so about the roster… 29 players still ‘in camp’ – 15 are position players.

Another single on a Haranger. 2 on, 1 out. Jackson is up.

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

CJ, Simba, Uggla, Freeman, Gattis, Laird, Doumit, Heyward, Upton, Upton, Schafer, Pena – clearly will be on the 25. That’s 12 names.

Flyout – 2 out. Got away with a hanger on that one.

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Santana, Teheran, Wood, Harang – Kimbrel, Varvaro, Avilan, Walden, Carpenter – that’s 9 names.

Ground out ends the 4th inning. Still 1-1. Haranging in there, I guess.

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

3 more position players in camp: Gosselin, Constanza, Pastornicky.
    So there’s 5 more pitchers….

    • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Hale, Schlosser, Gearrin (officially, I guess), and… Thomas I think.

  • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

So who get whittled in your opinion?

  • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

    Jordan bam! booyah

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

4 of those last 7 names make it. 3 don’t.
If Gearrin is hurt, then he’ll be on the AAA list.

Wow – Schafer hits a bomb vs. the wind to RF on a 3-0.

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

    Constanza is likely out.
So… Hale, Schlosser… Gosselin and Pastornicky, or Thomas and one of the infielders?

  • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

I think Gearrin is a foregone conclusion.

    • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Technically, maybe – they keep him via putting him on the roster and DL’ing him. Still haven’t heard a medical update.

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

BOOM – BJ hits a bit one to LF. “Longest one to LF we’ve seen here this year.” 3-1 Atlanta all of a sudden.

    • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

There’s a confidence builder… take him out of the game NOW.

  • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

At this point, I have no hard opinion about who from the list will go. I think it’s more or less anyone’s spot to claim, but there are not huge standouts among the group on the edge. I think the Rev. stays, but I can see the potential of other players as well.

    • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Gosselin has definitely made this a contest.

      • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Agreed, and he could be that surprise, but not real surprise player that make the roster. I just don’t like Constanza. He can motor, but there’s little else to recommend him because he is just not at all consistent.

        • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

I thought Greene had a good chance, but he fell off the map in performance.

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Lucas Sims just tweeted that he is set for the Carolina League this year: Lynchburg Hillcats.

    • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Good to see him get promoted, and continue his steady rise.

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

    Single to open bottom 5th.

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Just saw Schafer’s homer… probably about 400 ft off the scoreboard.

    • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

      …and BJ’s was awesome… actually looked a lot like a Justin swing.

      • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

They were switched at the birth of spring.

        • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

          Niiiice.

  • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

We need to do more writing on our minor league systems… Jeff and I thought about trying to recruit someone who can actually go to games… Gwinnett at least.

    • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

      That would be good.

      • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Lotta times, there’s some local college nearby that may have someone writing on the local sports scene, who wishes to expand his writing opportunities. Usually I contact such colleges and get put in touch with the journalism department, etc.

        • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Find something halfway between Gwinnett and Rome…. Dalton College or something (I made that up).

          • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Yeah I gotta start a seach.

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Meanwhile, runners on 2nd/3rd w/ 2 outs for Kinsler.

    • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Of course the bad part of the inning is walking SeaBass… he takes walks about like Franceour.

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

2-2 to Kinsler now. pop out to Freeman. Oh — NOW 2 outs. Oops.

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

O boy… didn’t get out of it. Miggy got it all: 4-3 Detroit.
“off speed pitch in the same spot” – can’t do that.

    • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Best player in the game imo.

      • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

If he’s not, he’s 2nd. Had him in 1 fantasy league last year, opted for Trout this year in our league. Thought seriously about going for both. :)

        • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Nobody has more prolific numbers and awards, and that since he started in the league. No one even comes close, and he’s not showing many signs of slowing.

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

    End of the 5th.

  • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

    Must….. have….. coffee

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Johnson flies out to center… Doumit up (hitting .295). 2-2 count. grounder to short.

Bronz cheer for Alex Gonzalez after he makes the play… LOL

  • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

    Patience Dan

    • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Full count…walked him. 2 walks today (!). Pinch runner for him.

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Cabrera’s homer went roughly the same spot at Upton’s… with little (apparent) effort.

Gattis lines out to CF. 1-2-bb-3 inning. Mid-6th.

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Simmons being Simmons. 1 out. Ball was spanked.

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Pastornicky at 2nd; Gosselin to 3rd; Loehman to 1st; Hefflinger in RF.
    Somebody named Hunter in LF.

    • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Cedric Hunter… didn’t know he was in the organization.

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Austin Jackson safe at first… on a strikeout.

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Cedric Hunter has been bouncing around… looks like he hits well until getting to AAA. Padres 2006-2011, Cards in 2012, Indians in 2013. Not a lot of power or speed. He’s 26.

    • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Oddly enough, he’s 3 for 3 this Spring with a double and 3 runs scored, so he’s leading the entire team in virtually everything.

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Robby Hefflinger catches one. 2 out.

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Ugh – Single, then E8 on Schafer in Center…run scores from 1st. 5-3 Tigers.

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Alex Gonzo now hits a double inside the line. The hangers are killing Harang. 6-3.
Shoulda been out of it, though.
    PITCHING CHANGE.

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Marvelous… radio ad is talking about the Infield Fly Rule. Guess which game was brought up?

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

This will be important: Varvaro now pitching… with his 9.90 ERA.

    • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

      That’s almost a Bo Derek

      • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Always gotta leave room for more.

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Easy grounder to Pastornicky. Not a great throw, but he’s out.

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Stephen Lerud… who’s probably played himself into the 4th catcher position… will start the 7th.

    • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Sounds like a wrestler to me, everytime I see his name… Lucious Lerud

      • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Well, that just ruined him for me.

        • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

          haha

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

    Grounder to SS. 1 out.

  • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Software download on DTV interrupting my broadcast. I could’ve opted out for now, but was curious.

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Scherzer being pulled after Schafer pops out. Scherzer wanted to finish, but won’t be allowed.

    • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

All aces, and in fact all competitive pitchers, wanna finish. Men from boys

  • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

The Alan and Chris show was brought to you today by the fine sponsors at Willie’s Rib Shack. Smoke em’ If you Got em’.

    • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Keyboard still sticky from that first full slab.

      • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Man that’s making me hawngry for a slab of ribs. Stop!

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Stretch ‘em out. Joe Nathan finished the ining.

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Varvar Binks back for more auditioning. Gets a tough group… if they aren’t swapped out for minor leaguers.

    • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

They are swapped out. Groundout to 2nd. 1 down.

    • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Meesa not really a fan o’ Varvar

      • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

He’d been fine… not this Spring, though. Saw a note that his velocity was way down.

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Grounder to … somebody… at SS. Dug out at first. “50-50 shot that it’s Kazmar out there”
    >> Seems the Det radio guys figured it out.
