Andrelton Simmons Scratched With Wrist Injury

The Braves have announced that Andrelton Simmons will be scratched from tonight’s game with an apparent wrist injury.

Ramiro Pena has been announced as starting in his place, batting 8th.  On top of the routine defensive theatrics Simmons displays on the field, Simmons has been one of the more consistent cog’s in the Braves inconsistent offensive output, slashing .321/.323/.357 through the first 8 games.

Hopefully this isn’t too serious and that we can expect Simba to be back in the lineup in time for this weekends home series against the Nationals.

I have to wonder if he sustained that injury last night while taking a dump (that didn’t come out right) at home plate. The contact at home plate was a non-collision really, but the combination of some contact with the catcher and tripping over the ump’s leg caused him to hit the ground pretty hard. He got up, Fredi showed concern, but there was no apparent injury sustained. I heard from a friend watching on TV he showed a grimace though. Hopefully this will be a minor setback for Simba, who I HOPE is our NEW regular 2-hole hitter!

There was a HUGE collective sigh around me in the stands at the game, when Simba hit the dirt!

I love Jim Powell but when he said Pena was a superb replacement I choked. He’s average to slightly above which is fine and not a problem but he’s not close Simba – who is? that thing at home was totally unnecessary and he’s paying for that tonight… and so is David Hale

If you watch that replay, part of the falling problem was Simba simply tripping over the umpire’s leg as I recall, and not so much the bump he took, which was small, from the catcher. Freak thing imo.
