Atlanta Braves Vs. Washington Nationals: Live Thread

Here’s a brief glimpse of the oddities and irregularities of this great game we call baseball…

The Atlanta Braves weren’t putting together much offense from day 1 of the season, but the pitching has been surprisingly phenomenal (minus a few small hiccups).  The Braves took their first series against the Milwaukee Brewers, then took their second series against the Washington Nationals, which surprised many.  Then, just last night in the 3rd game of the series against the New York Mets, the Braves lost, and thus lost the series.

The funny thing is the Mets were swept by the Nationals in their first series, and then went on to win their last two series against the Cincinnati Reds and now the Braves.  They were able to do that just as they did with the Braves, by aggressive base-running, and timely hits, despite the massive problems they have with their bullpen.

The Miami Marlins were on what looked to be a tear, winning their first series (a four gamer) against the Colorado Rockies, winning the series against the San Diego Padres, and then getting swept pretty handily by the Nationals!  They were in first place briefly, and no one was too surprised with the pitching rotation the fish have!

What does all that mean?

Nothing really, except that while it’s early in the season, it appears that the current NL East Standings, that have the Washington Nationals first and two games ahead of the Atlanta Braves, is likely what we’re going to see at the end of the year, at least if Atlanta doesn’t find out a way to stop the bleeding from their see-saw, hot-cold offense.

Our beloved Braves will have a chance to do that very thing beginning this evening as the visiting Washington Nationals come to Turner Field for a three game series.  Based on the puzzle above, and the results of those games, it should be a test for the Braves!  The Nationals are ever-increasingly improving it seems, while the Braves will have one spectacular game, and then seemingly forget who they are the very next game!  Teeter-Totter, indeed!

Okay, maybe that’s pushing it, but I guarantee you we love it when other Braves’ fans come and share.  Go Braves!

  • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

So much for a bad arm on Z

  • fireboss

Three things about that inning. Dan soft tosses to first instead of throwing. A soft toss is hard to pick, A hard one sticks the soft one is like catching a noodle. Julio’s mind was in the dugout. The ground ball was hit and he said okay I’m done .. What? He wasn’t ready to go. Evan didn;t go out and oput his arm around Julio and give his a blow. Neither did McDowell. Plenty of stuff to go around

    • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Yeah I agree. Tweeted that there’s plenty of blame to go around, and not all on Dan. Baseball fans are so like a fickle woman sometimes

  • fireboss

I may have to switch from bear beer to something stromger

    • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Good People Coffee Oatmeal Stout is my favorite… 10% ABV, and rated 95!

      • fireboss

Sound like a dark beer If I drink it you have to sit up all night and listen while I try to breath through closed sinuses

        • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Frightening thought there Fred ;) Then try a Good People Snake Handler. 12% ABV, and not dark. You might not find it easily in Texas though.

          • fireboss

Haven’t seen that label out here in the badlands west of DFW

  • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Well crapola on a crusty cracker!

  • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Joe, you’re a moron! You don’t have any idea how hard he can throw, and he should be, as Fred said, probablly in their 5 rather than Row Ark

  • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Gattis walks like a fat girl

    • fireboss

You tell him I’ll watch and video

      • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

I’m quite accomplished at close-quarter combat (see my profile). He’d be light work.

        • fireboss

Lot of practice with roundhouse kicks to grizzlies?

          • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

hehe no, but a TON getting them on the ground and choking them out with Jiu-jitsu :)

          • fireboss

There was a time I did some martial arts but my appendages don;t move that way any longer. My fried Berreta helps now

          • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Concealment and quick out of the holster, and that works! :)

        • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

It was merely a variant of a worm, and it was not in the groin!

  • fireboss

walden is better cause it isn’t the 9th inning

  • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

    I have a love/hate relationship with LaRoche!

    • fireboss

I like Adam, not signing him in 06 led to the Teixeira quest and saw us play Casey koitchman, Troy Glaus and other when we could have had a first baseman

      • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

And 8 years later, we do. :)

        • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Course Adam has vastly improved since 06

        • fireboss

yes and 8 year later he can go play elsewher

  • Glen Morrow

    Out

    • fireboss

      YEP

  • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

That hitch in Walden’s delivery makes me wonder how he ever can be accurate, but he is, and it often is just enough to fool hitters

    • fireboss

His back is going to be damaged as my next piece on mechanics briefly touches on (Teaser for part 2)

  • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Heads up! Great get at the plate!

    • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

  • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Lets stick to the modern era Joe, and btw… nice acting earlier on that correct answer.

  • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

    Well turd on a taco!

  • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

I’m glad they upheld the call, but I don’t agree with Joe that that was “pretty clear”

  • fireboss
