Atlanta Braves Got Brooms! Live Game Thread

Get Out Your Brooms Braves!

The Atlanta Braves will be looking to wrap up the current series with the visiting Cincinnati Reds today, and wrap it up with a three-game sweep in Atlanta.

The Reds has some offensive prowess, but their pitchers have struggled.  Of course that’s not the only reason the Braves have won the first two games.  Timely hitting when it was most needed by the Braves, and well-above average defense!  We’ll need to keep that up today against a tough pitcher in Johnny Cueto.

You’ll think me strange, but every time I hear about Cueto, I think of Kuato, the weird mutant character from Arnold Schwarzenegger’s movie, Total Recall!  Hopefully it will be total recall for the Braves, as the last time the team faced Cueto for any length was on May 15, 2012, where the Braves beat him up for 8 hits and 6 runs over a short 4 innings.  That was back when we had players like Michael Bourn, Martin Prado (who I really miss), and Brian McCann (who we had replaced very well).

Game Details

Game Time 1:35 PM EST, Sunday, April 27

Game Channel: Fox SportSouth

Probables:  Johnny Cueto (2-2, 1.38 ERA) vs Julio Teheran (2-1, 1.80 ERA)

    Lets go Braves !!!!

  • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Did we just hear from pre-game that Hale was sent down? I was pre-occupied and didn’t quite catch all of that from Matty

    • fireboss

Not sent down yet according to Braves Transactions page. I’m watching on MLB Network for now since I don’t get pre or post with MLB.TV

      • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Well as I said, I didn’t hear the whole Matty discourse, but I did hear Matty encouraging someone not to get down on themselves for having to go down, so I don’t know who that was, but makes sense it was Hale, as I’ve been saying there’s no other logical choice IMO.

        • fireboss

Schlosser is a logical choice if the want Hale to do long relief until Floyd comes up

          • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Yeah, he is a good choice, but I think he could be better outta the pen than Hale. That just my opinion of course, for what it’s worth. We shall see.

  • Glen Morrow

Yes Matt was saying that Hale did good Job while he was up here , which I was thinking that he was send down , but not for sure yet ????

  • fireboss

I’ve prepared so Chris won;lt have to leave for lunch or afternoon snack. Lettuce tomato pickles onions mushrooms green chili’s mustard ketchup spicy mayo and onion rings

    • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Double up on that grocery list, and you might have a chance.

      • Glen Morrow

Maybe Fred lighten up on the Onions , after all I am setting close to Chris .

        • fireboss

          breath mints

      • fireboss

This is the second best burger in town and a single, I wasn’t all that hungry

    • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Fred, did you eat that already? Might taste good, but looks gross!

      • fireboss

        Oh yea that’s long gone

  • fireboss

    I have Reds announcers

  • fireboss

    Sunglasses anyone? Buehler? Buehler?

    • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

      I detest that movie! lol

      • fireboss

I just watched you in the Bad News Bears… I can put up with Beuhler :)

        • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Now BNB is one the greatest of all time. I watched it as well, for like the gazillionth time. No substitute for the original.

          • fireboss

Just thinking Matheau smoking/drinking in the dugout , dad smacks his kid on the mound, nobody did a thing

  • fireboss

    Julio with a nice start

  • fireboss

1st pitch Jason? Really? Hitting 191 Dude

    • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Yeah you hear that crap about him on the HRD ballot…. I threw up in my mouth a little at that.

      • fireboss

Normally I’d be upset if he took part but this year his swing can’t be ruined so that’s not an issue. Still it made me laugh

        • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

He’s likely to embarrass Braves’ Organization. I doubt he gets picked anyway. I’d rather see Freddie or JUp. Justin has a sweet swing when he’s on, and Freddie’s swing hasn’t changed in 5 years! lol

          • fireboss

Home run derby is a waste of time. Too long and boring

  • fireboss

    He’s out

    • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

      Agreed. Joe Simpson is blind.

  • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

I am SHOCKED at that call!

    • fireboss

Another case of MLB’s command center not having the right angle. Dude was out by a foot

    • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

The reason we have this DAMN system is to get things right, and if NY cannot even see something as clear as that, then why do we have this system?

      • fireboss

The umps ought to be able to look at teE big board and see him out if NY can’t see it

        • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

I never fully got why NY can’t see the angles we see. Aren’t they just using a DVR and seeing the same broadcast we are seeing?

          • fireboss

I have no idea and a question MLB MUST answer this is three awful calls out of NY

    • Glen Morrow

He was out . Man I was surprised when the UMp gave the Safe call.

  • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

    I am livid! haha

  • fireboss

    Harry Yeprem Jr. @HarryFromCBus

.@MLB Video Replay Coordinator Stevie Wonder ruled against the #Reds.

    • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Sure it wasn’t Ray Charles back from the grave?

      • fireboss

Stevie = Guest Judge like on DWTS

  • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

What the hell is wrong with MLB players these days, that are all fired up to wear prescription specs, but cannot even figure out how to wear flips that are prescription anymore! I can only SMH!

  • fireboss

    SUNGLASSES

  • Glen Morrow

Everyone in outfield should have glasses , no exception B.J

    • fireboss

F;ip downs may not be cool but they work

  • fireboss

The maxipads for guys commercials needs to go. Next we’ll see two old fat dudes running while they extoll the virtues of Pee free pants

    • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

      Nothing is taboo anymore

  • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Kuato batting. The oxygen…. the oxygen…

  • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Hot, so Cueto didn’t wanna run, but with Dan, I probably would have.

    • fireboss

Me too. One thing you can always do is run it out. If that tires you out you need to get in shape

    • Glen Morrow

Yeah I would have , I think I am gonna nick name Dan Butterfinger Uggla.

  • fireboss

    Siddown kid

    • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Wow, that kid is fast for sure.

      • fireboss

yes indeed and if he ever learns to drag bunt the league is in trouble

      • Jeff Schafer

Yeah he is…The Cubs played the Reds when I went and saw him firsthand. He stole a base without a throw down

  • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Does Joe know what a cutter is?

    • fireboss

Ignorance is catching since sitting next to Chump he’s become an idiot

  • fireboss

Reds announcers talking great about Cueto’s delivery when it will eventually cause him knee and hip trouble. Knee doesn’t rotate like that and hip labrum doesn’t stretch

    • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Maybe, but Luis Tiant had a similar move, and lasted a long time.

      • fireboss

        How are his knees?

        • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Yeah I dunno. I cannot remember. He lasted a long time, but that movement is not natural, and I’ll have to look up Tiant’s injuries out of curiosity now.

          • fireboss

It’s likely a post career replacement. The knee gets loose over time and eventually comes apart

  • fireboss

Reds announcers giving us Teheran’s life story. Interesting stuff some I knew some I didn’t

    • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Can they come work in Atlanta?

      • fireboss

Well I don’t know if Thom would leave Daddy but he’s better than Chip

  • fireboss

Missed his target 4 feet and was so bad he struck him out

  • Glen Morrow

    Good comeback Julio

  • Glen Morrow

Uh! Roh Directv went out Go away Rain

  • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Raining hard. Satellite out. No game for me, unless I log into MLB.tv

    • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

We’re gonna have a lot of that over the next 60 hours.

      • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Yeah and I’m out and about on my bike, watching away from home. Thank goodness I have my rain gear.

  • fireboss

    • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

      • fireboss

Eh I dunno Pitcher next but only 1 down

        • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

          Yeah, that surprised me.

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

    Anything but a DP

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Nice Julio. Please teach Jason how to do that.

    • fireboss

and Hale and Santana and BJ and . . .

  • fireboss

    Teheran sacrifice successful

  • fireboss

Why dio I think Jason will fail

    • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Because of calls like that second “strike”

      • fireboss

Even without that horrible call I have no coifdence in him. awful swing lately and no good contact

  • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Sat back up! Boo rain! (sorry Father) Let the reader interpret.

  • fireboss

That was off the plate .. well off the plate

  • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

my gosh. BJ give your specs to the ump.

  • fireboss

    Freddie saving the day

  • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Defensively, Freddie is just average I suppose ;)

    • Glen Morrow

Freddie showing how it’s done .

    • fireboss

Well, he isn’t Votto, Gonzalez or Teixeira but he’s pretty goodf

      • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

I think he’s better in many respects. The thing is, you just don’t see him make mistakes much. I always say he’s big and “lumbering”, and that may hurt his range some, but when he’s in front of the ball, he rarely lets it get by him. He can hold his own these days with anyone.

        • fireboss

It’s range really, His picks are as good or better and anything close he gets. There’s not a lot between any of them and Goldschimidt too

  • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

    Good recovery Dan! booyah!

  • fireboss

Damn Dan Flashed the Leather again

    • Jeff Schafer

      Great play by Dan

    • Glen Morrow

Uh ! Oh Dan started that flashing thing again.

      • fireboss

Only Chris is watching that closely

        • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Yeah and while I wear Dexter specs too, I don’t need them to see a good play by Dan.

  • Jeff Schafer

What a defensive inning for the Braves

    • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Braves are 2nd to none defensively!

  • fireboss

#JUP smoked that. Now time for someone else to contribute

  • fireboss

    Walking to Atlanta…

    • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Is that like Walkin’ in Memphis, with my feet 10 ft off of Beale?

      • fireboss

        Like walkin to missouri

  • fireboss

Reds announcers just went all BAbip on CJ

  • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Same pitch on Johnson earlier. Horse Crap!

    • fireboss

Okay I was wrong at bat shows it caught the inside corner. Way to close to take.

      • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Yeah on replay, it was a touch closer. nibble, but still.

      • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Based on an earlier pitch shown on fox trax, I don’t think it ever got to plate.

  • fireboss

That was off the plate blue way off

  • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

Great series of pitches there Julio!

  • fireboss

    1-2-3 nothing across

  • fireboss

    • Glen Morrow

Ok that is a very scary request
